Curious if others also suffered from this.

My story is that I was originally budgeting about 180bucks for a pair of cans for my laptop. I was looking originally at the Beyer DTX800, decided to move up to the DTX900, on recommendation then tried to push for the MS-2s, decided no, then looked at the DT440s, was pretty set on them + m-audio transit, then was reconsidering the MS-2s, looked for a while at DT440/860/880/MS-2/K501/K240S etc...And then finally decided on the MS-2s. From 180 to 530 - ouch! 300% overbudget. Now I'm looking at doing the black gate mods to the transit when it gets here. Am I doomed forever?

PS. We need an SR325/MS-2 smilie.

I finaly found some one calling them eggos on this site and i ordered both the D66 and D22. Now i have about 30 different pair of headphones, its a blast. I have 6 pair of eggos

Originally I had a Senn HD 600, powered by an integrated amp, and I didn't really like the combo and thought about a dedicated headamp for 250 $.
Due to my lifestyle listening through headphones is a necessity.
Looking for more information I've stumbled into head-fi.
4000 Dollars later I'm looking at 13 cans, 4 soundcards, a DAC/headamp combo and 4 dedicated headphone amps.
Someone said it before:
Drugs would be cheaper.

Edit:I've forgot the PC-based music server, the DAP, the cables and whatnot.
I guess I'm done.
Except a complementing amp for the K1000s.
And the Sensaphonics.
And some more DACs, I have an Apogee and an Emu already in the pipe for testing purposes. And there's a german DIY-project, a resampling/reclocking NOS dac, very tempting.
Powerconditioning, maybe.Or better driving the whole stuff by rechargable batteries, that might be the best solution.

Let's see... I started out thinking around $2000 for the whole system... Then bought:

Used Rega Jupiter: $845
SinglePower Supra w/NOS 6SN7s: $1850
Used Nite II ICs: $350
2 Used Nite II Power Cords: $900
Like New MDR-R10s: Hehe, i've never said and never will. More than $1500, less than $4000.

So, yeah... I with just a taaaaad over budget.

My initial budget was about $100, which at the time, I though was an insane amt of money for a pair of headphones. My current rig is (will be) valued at over a grand.

My original budget was $30 for a pair of headphones. My current setup cost me $1300. It's probably worth around $1000 if I were to try to sell it.

Yeah, I forgot that part, still looking for HP-1000's, a balanced source, and planning to build a balanced dynahi.

When I bought my amp, I was planning a ppx from Mikhail, but ended up in wanting so many things in it, I went for an mpx3.
When I bought my soundcard, I was planning an EMU 1212, but got ****ed on that one, and then I got a 0404.
So, I guess I went over the budget both times

Hi,

My original budget was about $80 for cans to use with a Zen Xtra. My saga went something like this:
Zen Xtra 60gb - Now used by son
Crappy buds supplied with player - gave them away
Sony cheapos about $25 - now in a drawer
Sony EX71's - Hated them, and returned them to shop
HFI-650's - Now used by son
Porta Corda 2 - Now used from soundcard in computer
Etymotics - ER4P - Lying around, not used
Etymotics - P>S cable - as above
Rio Karma - My favourite DAP
UE-10 pros - What can I say. Brilliant, use them all the time
Vaja Case for Rio - Even a top model looks better in designer clothes
EMU 0404 - The prince of sound cards

I've also bought more and more music as the sound has got better and my enjoyment has increased. Probably about 100 CD's or more in the last 8 months. I've also been doing some backtracking by getting CD's of music I used to like years ago. Some of it has been a disapointment i.e. Byrds. Guess that sometimes sounds are great in the era and what you are listening to them, and don't stand the test of time. LED Zep of course will go forever!

Regrets - Wish I'd gone straight for custom canal 'phones and skipped the Eties, but on the other hand maybe that route has given me the opportunity to develop my tastes in headphone sound quality.

Just received Sharp MD33's for son, he didn't like the Eties. Haven't tried them yet since they're his Xmas box.

Just a short missive on the trials and tribulations of a Head-Fi member. It's right what everyone says when you first join - Sorry about your wallet.

Regards

John

PS If anyone in the UK wants the eties, send me a private message. Since I don't use them any more I'm open to any sensible offer. I live near Bristol so could meet up on a M/way
