As I am building up my inventory of headphones, I'm finding that there are some pairs are just not getting any head time. All I really need is four pairs: one work set, one home set, one critical listening portable, one beater portable.

How many pairs of headphones do you think you actually need?

I probably only need two, an open and closed, but that would make too much sense. I rotate it like this: EX-71's and KSC-75's rotated at work, depending on what kind of sound I want....at home, HD212's for when I want bass, or are playing games, SR-60's for anything else music...the HD201's I just gave to my dad since I got the 212's, and the PortaPro's have sat in the same place for months.

I currently have 6 that I use, E4c, UM2, HD595, Alessandro MS-1, Grado SR-60 and KSC75. I use the E4c and MS-1 the most.
Looking for some upgrades soon.

i use four at work. all four are hooked up to my presonus hp4 (4 headphone outs). if it weren't for the presonus, i'd probably just use one.

just 1 at home.

just 1 for portable.

Four:
ER4P/S for commuting (4 hrs per day); EX71 for office (tho' I might start using my E3Cs on silicones instead); SR80 for evening surfing/household chores; HD650 for pleasurable relaxation

Ideally, only four, say one work-out phone (Sony EX-71), one trevel phone (Ety ER-4S), one closed pair for work and one open pair at home. However, I think lot of us have more than 4.

Ironically, I think I have 10-12 freebie phones I've got for buying PCDPs, walkmans, MDs and MP3 players. I never use any of these!

I almost exclusively listen to the PS1s...the ER4Ps are for travel and ipod use, and I don't do either much. The DR5As are office decoration. The V6s I just can't bear to get rid of...and the RS1s are trade bait.

I have my MD-33s and e3s, but when my Karma died (almost nine months ago and no replacement!) I later bought some MS-1s to listen with at home..

Four sounds about right, athough it's nice to switch off, so that means you'd have to at least double each category, taking the total up to eight.

I use about 20 or so, but 3 or 4 are the main ones. You can't help but liking some more than others, but it's fun to have choices.
