Holo Audio Red Streamer

Hello,

Would the streamer also work with Audirvana 3.5 and Studio?
Nothing has been mentioned about that yet.
And there are certainly people who use Audirvana instead of Roon and co.

The rest looks pretty good to me.
I'm looking forward to further reports when the units are freely available.
If it supports UPNP it's also going to support Audirvana I think.
At least that was working on Zen Stream - though not very reliable in my case I have to say in contrast to directly hooking up the DAC to the Audirvana server, might be my network though.

Reminds me a bit of the approach of the Ifi Diablo portable amp

Suffice it to say, red is one polarizing color on an audio product, but we're happy how iDSD Diablo turned out. It was meant to be different after all ;)

So this thing does output 1.5MHz over USB, I wonder if there's going to be any improvement over the May's internal USB card.
Also wondering if all the outputs will work at the same time

Does anyone know if the Holo Red will support Amazon hd native streaming like the Wiim or Bluesound node?

I really wanted to try the Ifi products (Zen stream, Neo Stream) but both were hard scratches when not supporting Amazon. Wondering if the Holo is going to be the same.

No one knows yet what is in the stock firmware but it is turning out that alternative PI images can be booted.
So if there is a PI image supporting Amazon Music there might be a chance.
Haven't heard of any though and as it's not mentioned in the specs of the Holo Audio Red I strongly doubt it will be supported in the later stock firmware (at least on first release)

darn another product i have to scratch off the list... so disappointing it won't support Amazon and that it's pi based. Pi is like batteries to my tongue has a very hacky DIY PC builder/gamer feel to it. Guess I'll just have to get another bluesound then. Was really hoping for the ferrari like components from holo combined with a ddc and a really nice/premium UI.

@GoldenOne if you find some time, can you please try with RopieeeXL to play a song in Roon and switch the song over to HQPlayer NAA?
That's a common practice I have been doing before.
If hooking up my Roon/HQPLAYER server to my DAC via USB that's seamless without needing to change the DACs input port.
I am now wondering if I could do the same seamless switch or need to assign different ports like Coax to Roon and USB to HQPlayer and therefore needing to change the input ports each time in the DAC's menu. Thx!

Bluesound is crap, I wouldn't waste my money.

Have you ran Pi with an LPSU?

Letting the software part aside, I am curious how the different interface options (I2S, USB, COAX, optical) will differ sound-wise fed into Spring/May
All the synchronous outputs (i2s/aes/spdif) operate simultaneously.

The USB works separately. (And can be streamed to independently/simultaneously). Same thing on stuff like pi with pi2aes.

I do the same.
With RopieeeXL it seamlessly switches. The only caveat being that you have to close HQPlayer desktop client for it to release the device.

Roon releases once you stop playing though.

But yep, basically seamless and you never have to change settings

You mean HQPlayer desktop server, right?
Client is the remote control app.
So that will mean switching from playing through HQPLAYER will always mean to first close the server app before the device is released if using the same DAC input port.
If using different ports it might work without closing the server app?
Am just trying to figure out which way is more convenient.
Intersting that this locking isn't happening once connecting Holo DACs directly with the Roon/HQPlayer Server without Streamer in between (at least with my Mac Mini M1)

Edit : my fault, it's the client NAA app on the Red indeed as this one is connected to the DAC and not the server.
So the NAA seems to cause the locking vs server if server is connected to DAC without NAA

You can paint the ZenStream red  and bring its capabilities up to the level of the Neo to have DSD 512 and PCM 768 as this is starting to be the minimum standard.

Gonna have a full set of measurements later, but so far, RED has the lowest jitter of any DDC/Streamer I've tested. First thing to beat the Wavedream NET
Well done Jeff

Before more global measurements... you confirm that it is above the ZenStream which is already excellent (USB output)?

GoldenOne was referring to Wavedream Net to be beaten and not ZenStream

@GoldenOne what I am highly interested in is how the DDC/digital-in function is working side-by-side with the streaming services we've been discussing.
So, for example, can you just play some source like Apple Music from DAP/iPhone to the digital-in and for example Tidal-Connect is yet running, will it be by-passed?
Or do you need to separately activate | deactivate that DDC mode?
Thx and Cheers!

Following! Just got Spring 3 with preamp module and it has become the heart of my system. I’m currently streaming through iFi Zen Stream and am also wondering would this bring any improvement in SQ. Obviously it supports higher formats like 768khz and DSD512, which is nice with HQP.
