Holo Audio Red Streamer

first of all, the red os does not have any special naa file -- it's a standard hqp naa application. however, it isn't the most recent version. miska has stated that he thinks it's always best to use the latest version to avoid problems. frankly, i couldn't hear a difference between the version of naa in red os and the most recent version in hqp os. to me, that's not surprising as the naa application doesn't really do anything.

having said that, others have said they heard a difference. i haven't heard anyone say the difference is massive.
Nobody said, Holo Audio had a special NAA image for the Red. blackhawck11 said it right and confirmed, what I read. Jussi from Signalyst made a own one, that is superior to the Holo Audio implemented one in the general configuration setting.
What “massive” means in details is interesting me very much too.

Hello everyone. I have the SR Foundation power cable connected to the Red + SR PINK installed. The changes in the sound, if compared to the basic delivery, are simply huge. And of course for the better. I highly recommend you change the power cable and install Pure or Pink to evaluate it. I listen through Ropieee xl OS. I am very pleased with the choice, it is more convenient than the native Red OS.

Just responding to your comments . . . .

Holo Audio audio "implemented" Jussi's NAA, it just happens that that Holo implemented a slightly older version. I've owned both and listened to both - the difference is not massive.

Go with Roon, they said. It’ll fix all of your problems, they said.

Got my Nuc ROCK up and running last night. Then, I finally got all of the settings right to get my Red to play music, BUT my phone, nor tablet, will find/connect to my Nuc. My laptop on WiFi works with no problems. Any thoughts?

My iPad says connecting and just stays on that screen. I’ve left it on that screen for 15-20 minutes and nothing. My phone just continues to search for a server.

I guess the good part is my Red does seem more stable playing Tidal via Roon. No drop outs and no freezing of the Tidal app. The sound is worse though. Things sound a bit muffled and bright instruments, like trumpets sound brittle.

@Alchemy1

Reboot NUC?
Does NUC appear in the network, with an IP?

If yes,
Press 'Need help finding your roon server?' I belief it was that which got me to 'select another server' or the likes, and hey there is was to choose from. Just an anecdote.

For those into VOLUMIO there's a limited offering for a lifetime premium licence for 199euro, I just bought it.
https://m.facebook.com/volumio/
Installed it, activated Roon and Spotify plugins. Compared to Red OS you don't have to choose a service + save, I can now switch from Roon to Tidal connect to Spotify Connect without visiting the Red OS to choose.
What are peoples thoughts on Volumio please?

PS: for better SQ I did this

In Red OS, you can now have multiple services running at the same time if you so choose.

Yeah but that didn't work out like that so easily. In multiple services I've failed to use e.g. Roon, stop that, go over to Spotify Connect and use that, without the necessity to visit Red OS and replace a dot + save.
Anyone can?
What am I missing? The multiple services fails on me, and others here too as posted. Yes You can put a dot next to multiple services but that ain't enough, you still need that second dot RED NATIVE OUTPUT that is not cross services imho.
That was a reason I went digging into Volumio.

have you updated to the latest version of red os (you can check at the bottom of the web page for updates)? at the top of the web page, there's a radio button to use either performance mode (one service at a time) or allow multiple services running at a time.

having said that, i haven't tested the multiple service option as i use the performance mode and selected either roon or hqplayer. i didn't mind going to the web page and selecting a service and pressing save. i understand that others would find that inconvenient.
