HiFiMan Susvara

Lambskin pads are in (pain in the ass to get them on. Kept getting worried I’d break them. No knock against Zach it’s hifimans installation problem) and they definitely are more comfortable than stock. Also might be because my stock pads weren’t symmetrical as you can see in one of the two pics below. One side was slightly flatter. The zmf pads matched each other perfectly.

I would say off the bat I don’t feel like anything is hugely different sound wise and it’s familiar which was the goal from what I understand. I do feel a hair more bass which was measured and I appreciate actually. Was worth the buy for me. More comfortable, feel like my ears breathe better, and didn’t alter the sound much if at all.

Susvara is my open back paradise. Not surprised that if anyone was going to make it more enjoyable it’d be Zach with my past experience with zmf cans. That said I’m looking forward to that caldera closed when it launches to possibly replace my dca stealth.
They look great! What would you say are the minor changes in sound? Also, are the thinner or thicker than the stock ones?

Blind bought the Envy with we300b tubes. I only tried 1 tube amp a few years ago at canjam so I'm excited
You are in for a ride, especially after ORR.

Might want to upgrade the dac too :)

A little more bass, the sound is a little bigger. The measurements Zach gave for the lambskin pads are matching up to what im hearing pretty accurately. I would say the biggest thing I notice that Zach mentioned in the video is that the lambskin pads smoothed out some of the peaking in the sound. Still sounds like the Susvara I love but with less sudden fatiguing peaks in the sound. As far as thicker or thinner, I don't know the measurements between the two but the lambskin to me might be slightly thicker since I don't feel my ear pressing against the driver grill as much with them

But I have to mention again, if you look at my stock pads, they weren't even. Most of the changes could very well be because I'm coming from uneven stock pads. I actually damaged one of the stock pads getting them off. The stitching was being held by potentially weak glue so it came off some. Regardless I was worried about messing up the new pads so not able to go back to the stock pads. With these being more comfortable I don't think I'd want to.

I will soon. Hopefully the Envy synergizes well with the Caldera as well.
Caldera doesn’t scale as well as Susvara (not even close) but it will sound lovely on tubes :)

Quite a low power output (only 3.5W balanced into 32 Ohms resistance) for such an expensive headphone amp !
If the 'Mass Kōbō 465' blew you away with it's low power output you should give the HifiMan EF1000 a demo !
so you're a fan of the ef1000. who knew?

Headphones.com has an open box EF1000 on sale for $9499 USD- still too rich for my blood but maybe not for everyone.

I liked the EF1000 back at CanJam ‘22. The EF1000DAC was almost the same in punch.

I think the Kobo 465 does a better job honestly. And if you pair the 465 with a Tungsten you get Susvara like sub bass with the imaging and layering of a Tungsten. It is audio nirvana.

You can power the Susvara (and other dynamics/planars) for far less. Paying $10k for a dynamic amp system is a choice, which I actually really respect. If it's your endgame it makes total sense to pay a premium. I'm just here to say that optimal performance can be had for less, unlike say with stats.

The EF1000 also performs great with medium to high efficiency speakers. So you have a two in one Pre & Power Amp for the money !

if you seek only a headphne amp you can obviously make do with a far less expensive option but the EF1000 is in fact quite good

This CanJam one of my primary goals was to spend as much time as I could with Susvara, to finally really understand what it's all about. Fortunately for me, this year there were more Sus'es on display than ever before. I listened to it on 4 or 5 different chains and came away finally feeling like I had a good grasp on what it's all about and why people love it so much. Having just recently picked up both Caldera and Holo Bliss, I kinda had it in the back of my mind that I owed it to myself to add a Susvara to my arsenal, if only to spend some quality time digging deep into what it can do. And once I get a thought in my brain, it plays over and over like an earworm. And so here we are........

Would love to hear your thoughts with Stellaris! I'm assuming given my experience with DNA amps, I don't think it has enough gain for Susvara, but Bliss can easily handle the Susvara though
