HiFiMan Susvara

I just bought a new cable for the Susvara. The Forza Audio top model Forza Noir Hybrid HPC. I find the stock Spaghetti cable a bit clumsy and it's also way too long for me (3m).
With the resolution loupe Susvara you really hear every teeny change in cables. The Noir Hybrid sounds a bit fuller, the Susvara no longer quite so laid back, but a bit more aggressive which meets my music metal. The bass range comes even more present to the fore. The cable is a 8 core UPOCC cable that has not only silver-coated conductors, but pure silver wires and pure copper wires mixed.
I had previously tried a UPOCC cable with silver coated conductors, but overall it sounded too thin compared to the original Hifiman Crystalline cable.

I have that cable too. I buy cables mostly for ergonomics and looks. Sound differences are very subtle ime. I am happy with the Forza cable.

I should get around to updating this list. Lots of amps I would discard from this list.
Is the Pendant still a legit amp for Susvara. I've seen some positive comments about it but nothing very definitive.

Not the best combo. It will sound pleasant sure, but a higher current amp makes a difference, noticeably in staging and slam.

I see the 007 in your thumb. Do you still use it? Would be great to get an A/B from an owner.

Yes the SR007 MK2 SZ2xxx bass port mod driven by my KGSSHV Carbon was for years my absolutely reference until I get the Susvara driven by Niimbus.

The tonality of this SR007 is very good way better then SR009 which is too bright for my taste. With the SR007 you get also this holografic soundstage and instrument separation but not on the technically level of the Susvara. The SR007 sounds warmer with a little more bass impact. The Susvara is not an electrostat but it sounds faster. The bass goes deeper. The SR007 has more midbass but not so much subbass. Means the Susvara bass is more neutral has also more quality. The resolution on both is excellent Susvara is a little bit better in this department. Susvara sounds more laidback. SR007 is more aggressive.
I'm very happy to have them both.

Many people are, including several people at our HQ ;) Sound aspects aside, these cables are super comfy, free from microphonics and very reasonably priced given what they are.

That's probably why I have five of them ...

Did anyone have the possibility of the Susvara comparing the Shangri La Jr. ?

The diagram says they're much similar ,….

Does it sound pretty similar?

I have compered Shangri La Jr to HE1000se. Amp and DAC was from Ifi thou. To me Jr sounded smilare to the HE1000se, but had a bit leaner, sharper and more airy sound.

I read an online review awhile ago from a Hifi Show that the Susvara partnered with the EF-1000 is up there with the Hifiman Shangri-La Senior (both systems using the same DAC) with some people preferring the sound of the Susvara & EF-1000.

Yea, it'll be interesting to see. I've read a ton from the thread here and elsewhere and it certainly sounds like a step up from just about anything, Susvara included. But obviously preferences matter. However, I prefer the 009 to the Susvara slightly given it's e-stat wow factor. Susvara has smoother tonality for sure, and it would be great to have a merge of both worlds so to speak.. but again, haven't heard the Shangri-La yet. Definitely expecting a higher level of performance, but absolutely not in linear fashion--at all. Should be marginal diff, but worth it..we'll see.

In either case, I will be totally transparent and critical of it just as well as praising, as I have been with all of my gear impressions.

I am patiently waiting for your review. Perhaps it will shatter your expectations. I for one, never believed that dac/amp should cost more than a headphone, until I heard better. Perhaps something like that will happen to you with Shangri-la Sr, or maybe not, let's read about it when it arrives :)

I will be getting the Susvara soon and am looking into amps for it. So far I'm leaning towards the gs-x mini because I've heard good things about the pairing. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, price limit about 3k. :)

Dont get the Mini. I have often maxed out the volume on the Mini when running the Sus, and I wouldn’t say I listen particularly loud.

Its a wonderful little amp though but not for the Sus.

Under 3K, your best bets are as follows:
1. Cayin IHA-6 (more power and intended to have more current output than the Mini). Also cheapest of the lot.
2. Roksan K3 amps (integrated is a good option)
3. Some people use the Flux amps but I was not overly impressed
4. PrimaLuna EVO 200 with an HE-adapter from Hifiman (or a better DIY version)
5. The iFi Pro iCAN, although I liked it much better with the TC than the Susvara.

Of all the above, my highest recommendations are for 1 and 2, followed by 4.

If you plan on getting a GS-X mini and you have a 3k limit, assuming space isn't an issue, I'd highly recommend just going with a CFA3 or a SuSy Dynahi. I believe each can be had for less than 3k and they obliterate the GS-X mini. Of course, the only downside is the wait assuming there isn't one already for sale.
