HIFIMAN announced 2 new DAPs a couple days ago..

HM802s

Improvements:
- Better stepped attenuator
- Improved scroll wheel
- 3s startup, just like the 901s
- Separate single-ended and balanced phone outputs (again, like the 901s)

Price: RMB 5,999 with balanced amp card

SuperMini

(Detailed specs not release yet)

What we know:
- SQ very close to the 901s
- Native DSD
- Max power output: 400mW / channel (not sure at what impedance)
- Battery life: 22 hours
- Single-ended and balanced outputs
- Dimension: 104 x 45 x 8.5mm
- Card slot x1 (looks like SD?)

Price: RMB 2,299 with a pair of balanced in-ear (not RE400 / 600, something new)

Hifiman owes me a favour, they offered to swap my 901 for 901u for a "good price" (sworn to secrecy) , but as my 901 is working fine and the U doesn't seem much of an upgrade so I have turned down their offer.

Has anyone swapped their 901 for 901 u?

LOL - nice of you to keep a secret by posting it on a public forum

I wish HifiMan would finally create a proper new flagship, rather than endlessly re-hashing the enormous heavy brick that is the HM901x/HM80Xx.

The SuperMini looks somewhat interesting, but it clearly isn't intended as a flagship device.

Seems like they aren't really interested in competing with their competitors. SQ is one thing, but it's not everything, and you can't just expect to people to keep buying a rehashed old design, when competitors keep moving forwards with much slicker and more modern DAPs.

Got to demo this today. It's one heavy unit. Nice finish

Have you tried by any chance low/high switch while demoing? I got one new HM-802u, sounds great but when switching low/high button nothing happens

. At least no substantial difference. On my other daps and amps it is always day and night difference between low and high gain.

Anybody knows what's the difference between HM-802u and HM-802s units? All I can see on HM-802s: "HOME" label is uppercase letters now, and onscreen label "Upgraded from HM 802" is gone. Technical specifications, seems like, are the same.
