AFAIK, don't extract. Copy the zip file to the root of the SD Card.

Don't unzip! Just copy update.zip to a FAT32 formatted SD card and then reboot your player while holding "Home" button at the same time.

More I read more I am getting excited about this new Hifiman flagship. I think when I have money to get it, it will be already stable and bug free with a very nice user friendly firmware.

When I see these posts stressing FAT32 formatted SD card when installing new firmware, I have to ask: It does play music with SDXC (exFAT) cards, doesn't it?

Yes, since the previous firmware (v1.074). I am using 64GB SDXC in exFAT on mine.

Thanks ClieOS. I also have a 64GB SD card, however FAT32 formatted for use in my HM-801. Planning to buy one SDXC more for the 901.

Where can I buy a case for the HM-901? USA preferred...

Hi folks!
Super excited! My HM-901 and RE-600 headphones ship from America today, I may just be one of the first in Australia to get these after waiting soooo long for the release.

Very excited as you can imagine.
What is the best SD card to buy. Does a 128GB slow the player down? Does the 901 need to a particular type of SD and should i format it first to fat32 for future firmware updates (how do you format to fat32?).
any tips on the best way to organize your music on the SD card to get the most out of the player much appreciated.

Thanks folks!

I'm using these:

It supports exFat for storing/accessing music. However, you need a smaller card in FAT32 for firmware upgrades, probably to avoid sd card stability issues causing firmware to corrupt and bricking it.

I organised music by Root> Category > Artists > Albums

It supports embedded album art or a jpg file in the folder.

Enjoy!

Wohaaaa!

I thought it only read cover.jpg files.

Does the HM-901 rescan the SD card all over every time you switch cards?
How long is a scan of your 128GB card?

BTW - in the HDP-R10 thread some head-fiers experienced that a very, very fast Samsung 16GB (mSD) card sounded better than slower, bigger cards in their DAP. This was confirmed by at least a couple of guys IIRC.

Embedded art is supported for MP3 but not yet for FLAC I believe.  So the folder.jpg or whateverrandomnameyoulike.jpg is still the way to go.

Yes it would scan every time you switch cards.  But since it didn't stop you from browsing by folders I just continue to navigate and play music so never really timed the scanning.  I tried a few 16, 32, 64gb Sandisk and Sony cards but can't say I notice any difference in sound vs the 128gb Kingston.
