True but do you still get the HE 4 optimal sound out of the Vali? If you compared the DT 880 on the Vali to the HE 4, would the HE 4 stand out as the better headphone? I tend to think it would be mostly on par with the DT 880 out of the Vali, I could be wrong but through my NFb10ES2 balanced out the HE 4 was is a mosnter

and I did a test with my old DT 990 and HE 400 [imo the DT 990 and HE 400 share teh same relationship at the HE 4 and the DT 880,]

and the HE 400 on my Matrix M Stage, was imo on par with the DT 990, each had advantages over the other, but their trade offs put them on equal footing, out of the NFB 10ES2 [SE at that] the HE 400 started to sound a step above the DT 990

so I assume with less than optimal amps, the HE 4 wouldn't be any better than cheaper priced dyanmic headphones. Just my 2 cents

Yes, definitely. The Vali may not be optimal for quiet recordings though.

Hi Everyone,

Haven't read through all the posts yet, but wanted to say Hi and thanks for having me!

I got my HE-500's exactly 7 hours and 8 minutes ago.  My Schiit Bifrost DAC and Schiit Lyr are arriving tomorrow.  Right now I'm (trying) to drive them through my Logitech 5.1 computer speakers, which are *barely* getting the job done at full volume with a little dB and equalizer push from JRiver on Windows 7.

Tomorrow I'll be driving them solely from the Schiit DAC/Amp combo and a Macbook Air.  By Friday I'll be sending files via AirPlay through my Apple TV via Toslink cable.

As I write this I'm listening to some 24-bit/192KHz vinyl rips of James Taylor, Dave Matthews, Billie Holiday, Queen, Pearl Jam, and Peter Gabriel tracks.  And ALL of them sound great un-amped!  I can't wait to hear them through the "Schiit Stack" tomorrow! :)

Hope to find some fellow HiFiMan aficionados  on this thread!

Tim from Seattle

If you think they sound good un-amped, you'll be blown away when the Schiit comes in!

^+1
Not a big fan of the Schiit gear myself but any amplification with the 500 is better than none at all, you're only listening at 20% of their potential right now.  Give'm decent amplification and 50 hours of burn in and you'll be in heaven.

Misunderstandingzz...
The bolded line was said in relation to Nimzerz being annoyed by k701 pads being recommended too much.
I know xenophon owns the amp..
Never said anything bad about the evil one or 339/337 for that matter, might have commented a little on your tendency to rave about it back then (which is quite true IMO), but that's it.

no worries..i dont feel offended... hope u will enjoy ur listening time with that 339 on that meet ur going to attend:D

That's not me :frowning2:
I doubt there's any 337/339 owner in my country.

where does one get these pads? I'm not wanting to buy it from mp4heads or whatever

I think mp4nation was the only place I saw them, but one could always search more thoroughly.
