HifiMan HE6 V2 Adorama

Buying Ifi (low-end desktop) DAC to use with my existing amp is something I always considering but never been able to make up my mind since most of the Ifi products are amplifiers with built-in DAC instead of purely DACs. I feel like paying something I don't really need.

Some DACs have their line drivers powerful enough to handle headphones and that doesn't impact the product's price too much :)

I received my HE6SE v2 from Adorama yesterday after they had been on a few weeks backorder. They came in different packaging than the ones I had seen before. I don't think these are a new revision, but don't know that I would be able to tell myself. Maybe there's some hope that they did something to fix the stuck diaphragm issue.

Regardless, imagine my surprise and excitement that the new packaging also included this BEAUTY of a headphone stand 😂

If I don't place them JUST RIGHT, the whole thing topples over lol.

Here is the box they came in:

My problem with the HE6se v2 is that it sounds really dry, like there is no soul. Tried quite a few solid state, but it never sounded musical. Yes it has much better impact and bass tightness than most other hifimans, but too dry.

But now I use a 10W Class-A KT88 SET tube amp and it corrects much of the flaws. Sounds warmer, wetter and much more musical, but still retains that tight sound and bass. One caveat is that I need to use warmer driver and buffer tubes and 5AR4 rectifier. This is now better than Arya and HEKse for my ears.
Interesting. More technical and dry than the HE-500 for sure. But in my set-up? My amp can be dry mid-treble. But that's the amp. I have mitigated that a bit with other choices:

1. My very liquid/analog DAC - Gungnir MB version A w/ first update, not 2nd.

2. LG v40: streamer, bit-perfect or parametric EQ. TIDAL 24/96 sometimes 24/192. Neutral, not harsh/hard.

3. Ragnarok 1. Class A thru 4 watts. Unlike say Class A/B there is no notch which can truncate detail/overtones. It's pretty neutral but there is a bit of dryness in the mid-treble at times. Wish I kept one of my two Pass X-150's for the full Class A with limpid highs routine.

What a brilliant bonus :D

Pretty or not, a foamy stand is much better than no stand at all and I'd happily use it!

Besides, I take it that this stand was cut from the foamy interior of the box? If so, that's a clever material usage.

From your picture, you already changed the stock cable, or the newer shipment now come with a different cable?

Stock cable is the same (or very similar) one that it's always come with. (The rubber-y one). Still comes with the balanced adapter too.

I have a Periapt cable I bought for my Arya. Just plugged that one into the HE6SE.

Which Arya do you have? I've sold my HE6se and from my memory the new Arya Stealth sounds very close to HE6se and it's much easier to drive.

Mmm... Not to me. Arya has a much better soundstage. SE has much better bass impact. Arya (all) much easier to drive.
