I think you are confusing the HE1000 SE with the latest version who some are calling the HE1000 V2 Stealth. They are different headphonesWell calling the hekv2 the hek stealth will cause confusion regardless of what hifiman calls it
Here’s the generally accepted version names
He1000/v1
He1000v2 (2.5/3.5 cup connectors)
He1000 stealth
He1000v2 stealth (some people have adopted v3)
Really it’s hifimans fault but I don’t bash them for it. It’s not rocket science and they are good enough to give hifiman a pass on the revisions and redundant name usage
The he1000 stealth has been around for 4ish years and is different… or is it?
haha yep you're rightYou are referring to the HE1000se. "SE" stands for "Special Edition", not "Stealth Edition".
Same as HE6se....It has nothing to do with stealth magnets.
My understanding is that there are 4 different revision/versions:
HE1000 V1
HE1000 V2 Non-Stealth
HE1000 V2 Stealth
HE1000 SE
Maybe the Arya v1 or v2, which I've not heard. It's sounds to me by the nomenclature that Arya is meant to shine in open, spacious opera or classical music so it makes sense to me that it might out perform HE1k in that genre.
Indeed. If one wants to listen to all genres of music, then Arya Stealth is the right choice. But if their primary genre is Jazz or Classical, then Arya V2 is more suitable. The characteristics of HE1000 V2 (Non-Stealth) remind me of Arya Stealth, with good timbre and a smaller soundstage.Maybe the Arya v1 or v2, which I've not heard.
But the Arya Stealth, to my ears, does nothing better than the He1000 Stealth.
Try adjusting the headband (side notches up and down ) to find the 'sweet spot', since drivers are quite big.So I just got a brand new HEKv2 in the mail and based on the old packaging and the janky cable, this seems to be the non-stealth version. My first impression is that it's quite unremarkable. I was hoping to upgrade form Arya V2 but the HEKv2 has considerably smaller soundstage and things like strings in orchestra sound too distant. If I crank the volume up, it only creates an imbalance between the main instrument, say violin, and the orchestra. The same music in Arya V2 sounds engulfing and engaging. There's definitely more resolution with the HEKv2 but I can't tell which images better because the smaller soundstage on HEKv2 places things unnaturally. It's like the orchestra is so tightly placed vs. the traditional wide setting. I'm hoping some burn in would fix this but did anyone notice this? I read that HEKv2 stealth has even smaller soundstage so I wonder if I got a fluke or something.
I would easily say He1000 Stealth is the best all rounder by a good margin - the improvements in resolution, bass slam and attack, as well as the overall timbre of the real deal nano drivers just elevates them to such a high level.Indeed.
