How should the competition be able to stand up to that?!
2000€ for these headphones.
This is the ultimate deal.
These headphones are a revelation!

Just ordered a set of he1000 v2 on sale. Going to use them with a d90/a90 stack. I have a 15 foot occ cable from mimic cables that I'll use with the balanced adapter included with the phones. Will this be adequate to let the phones give their best?

Turns out the a90/d90 combo is very adequate. The phones are better sounding than I could have imagined and I have no regrets. Time to buy a decent balanced cable and I think I'm good to go!
Nice!
Congrats.
Tomorrow some friends will listen to HEKV2 for the first time.
Can't wait for their reaction.
And I bet my modded HE6seV2 will be really liked too :)

These things really are amazing. I love my ah-d7000 but the he1000v2 definitely wins in the detail and separation department. Loving the extra sharpness with electric guitars as well as pretty much everything else. They sit on the edge of giving maximum fidelity without causing pain. Well done and basically what I was hoping for.

Might shoot for the SE once it comes down in price. I like that's it's way easier to drive, though I think the scooped out mids might bother me a bit.
I don't think you should worry about any "scooped out mids" issue with the SE. I don't recognize that at all. If anything the V2's are slightly more U shaped because of their slight mid-bass bump and treble peakiness (don't shoot me, V2 fans, I said "slightly". V2 is still pretty good and also outstanding VFM at current sale price).

The only real consideration IMO (for both V2 and SE) are the slight treble peaks that can can result in a slight thinness to certain recordings that lean in that direction. They both have it, but the V2 has just a little bit more. Which can be reduced by system matching, and completely eliminated by PEQ (if you're prepared to accept the downside of PEQ).
But the mid-range itself is outstanding IMO.

Overall, that was the best and most comprehensive video review I've yet seen of the HEK.

Apos flow xlr cable came in today. Very nice and sounds as good as the stock balanced cable with the addition of flexability, better looks, and 5 extra feet of length as they were nice enough to make me a long one to reach across the room. I'm not a huge believer in cables making a big difference but balanced does sound better to me than a normal cable for some reason. Maybe the amp has a better 4 pin xlr output than the 6.3mm? Happy with it:thumbsup:

Guys what would be a good DAC to accompany the Soloist 3XP with the HE1000v2 - Gustard X18 or SMSL VMV D1se (same budget)
or the Bifrost 2/64 (more expensive)
or the SMSL SU9n (cheapest)

Looking for something that gives the depth and airy open wide soundstage HE1000v2 is famous for.

If I am not wrong, DACs have the least influence on the sound signature, so what would be the best bang for buck DAC to go with?
Any other option as well!

I don’t have a lot of experience with these DACs tbh, but I would aim for the BF 2/64 is layering is the thing you want to take advantage of. Do you already have the HEK1000 V2? I found it can lack impact and punch, which is what something like the BF2 will help give it, in addition to enhancing its sense of 3D-ness.

Yep, I do and its being powered by the EF400 atm.

Gonna grab a Soloist 3XP soon and looking for DAC to pair with.

You're kinda correct in the HE1000v2 lacking that impact and punch a bit, especially for some fast electronic tracks or trip hop or when listening to drums and snare hits in general. Hence looking to pick up the Soloist to give the planar some good Class A current!

Have the TH909 when i want to listen to some lively punchy fast eclectic kind of fun sound but also wanting to infuse some of that character into the HE1000v2 as well.

Also had the Arya V3 Stealth version and although it had the impact and punch but it sounded more like the TH909 in this respect (with the TH909 excelling though) and also did not like the constricted in your face attention seeking kind of soundstage. Hence sold it off.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Biforst 2/64. What I read that the 2/64 has gone more neutral and lacks in width but has a depth to compensate for. Can you concur this?

I only ever owned the OG Bifrost 2, and yes, it was less wide and more back to front soundstage. But with the HEKV2 is didn’t seem to matter much. With the Arya in the other hand, things felt a little too closed in on either side.
