That is right. That is actually why I told HiFiMAN it should not have been called Beta Test but something like "Field Evaluation". These units are production level units and they were not expecting any major changes before rolling them out to the market.

The term beta has been perverted over the years. At one time, beta really did mean "pretty much done and now need an external field evaluation" - at least in software development. For some reason, people think beta testing means alpha testing. But alpha testing is alpha testing. In the end, who cares. Just word games on the Internet. If HFM called it a field evaluation, some idiot here would have decided that it should have been properly called a beta test. BTW, HFM did catch a thing (or two) during this beta test.

Sennheiser the laughing stock? The HD800 is the most succesfull Top of the line headphone of all time.

The HD800 is the most successful totl headphone of all time. If you would read the post though I am talking about post HD800. Post HD800 the totl offerings have been piss poor but if you like the hd700 and their new amp and amp/dac then to each their own.

For the record I own the HD800 and adore it with my wheatfield ha-2, rca smooth plate 5u4g, gec A1834(6as7g), Marconi b65, auralic ark mx+ dac and Tascam 900sl. Just wish sennheiser would come out with something decent in the totl department. That's all.

Yeap, you are right Marv.

but the hd700 isn't sennheiser's totl can - the hd800 is and it's still a benchmark product. seems to me that you're just impatient for sennheiser to release a new flagship. that's understandable but calling sennheiser "a laughing stock of totl" because they haven't given you what you want is kinda childish.

@preproman i just read your comparison on the HE1000 and other totl headphone. Nicely done
beerchug.gif

That just potentially saved me 3k down the line. I'm still waiting for something that has better mids than the HE-6. Even without an optimal amp (as is the case for me) the HE-6 mids is by far better than the other options for me.

Maybe the Ether should be on your short list.

I do not think it is just what I want but to each his own.

Is the original LCD3 (non-fazor) better or the HE1000?

IMO if you want the short answer, HE1000.  If you want the long answer there are plenty of comparisons over at the other HE1000 impressions thread.

It was pointed out earlier that the HE1K has made its debut on eBay:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HIFIMAN-HE1000-Over-Ear-Full-Size-Planar-Magnetic-Headphone-Open-Back-/251983068364

What may have gone unnoticed was the estimated shipping date, sometime between June 29 and July 22.

I've got a little egg on my face.  I reported that my HE-1000 had been shipped turns out to be erroneous.  The store I pre-ordered at told me that the shipping was due to arrive last Friday and would be shipped right away.  Unfortunately, they told me after the weekend that they did not get in their shipment.  (Sorry

)  They told me that they don't have any estimates on when the first batch will arrive.

Total and Complete Speculation:  Perhaps HiFiMAN is busy manufacturing enough to start fulfilling orders.  But perhaps they are doing more than just adjusting the headbands.  Mid-late July certainly gives them enough time try to address more substantial issues that have surfaced in the beta.
