My vote goes with @preproman , as I know, no one experimented HE-6 or other HP's with array of amp/dac as he did.

@musicinmymind, his review has already been posted here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/767883/official-hifiman-he1000-impressions-thread/450#post_11670499

It is funny how you can love so many wildly differing products though.

If a person decides to send their beta HE1000 back for a refund, what address, and to whom do you send them back to.
I cannot get an answer from Hifiman.
Thanks.

@preproman i just read your comparison on the HE1000 and other totl headphone. Nicely done

That just potentially saved me 3k down the line. I'm still waiting for something that has better mids than the HE-6. Even without an optimal amp (as is the case for me) the HE-6 mids is by far better than the other options for me.

There are a lot of different opinions. Probably 70/30 positive/negative.

Midrange is better on the he-6's, treble is too polite, they're not engaging enough, not enough low level detail retrieval, dull at low volumes, too laidback

There is of course a lot of positives so far as well.

I'm just trying to answer your question as to why people would/might consider modding them.

The midrange can't touch the HE-6 (that's for sure)  All the other things are minor / relative and others may not feel that way..  Yes there're a lot of positives.  Price is not one of them..

I said this a long time ago in this thread that the beta roll out makes me feel like fang spent 7 months not years designing this headphone and "Why shart on the last step when it's the last step".

Still at least HFM is doing something. If anyone is the laughing stock of totl it is sennheiser imo. Nothing since the hd800 except 2 schitty amp/amp dac's, a piece of garbage hd700, and like 30 beats wannabe urbanite phones. I realize that sennheiser is much bigger than most headphone companies and have to conform themselves to the market just a bit more, but they have completely given up on totl in the last 6 years imo.

Sennheiser the laughing stock? The HD800 is the most succesfull Top of the line headphone of all time.

I find it hard to believe HE-1000 is worse than HE-6 in midrange, its newer, cost 3x as much and it have bigger driver made from lighter nano material also it have asymetric magnets, the FR is pretty similiar to HE-6 I wont believe its worse in any aspect especialy midrange till I try for myself

Well that's why you hear the phrase "we all hear differently" thrown around a lot. Yes, it's a good idea to check them out for yourself, you may or may not disagree. I'm an he6 fanatic, but the midrange on the he1000 is superior to even a fully modded he6 imo. Ymmv as always.
