Man.... I feel like I opened a can of worms with the A-100 and the HE-6 all those years ago.

My first amp for the HE-6 was a Nuforce Icon2 which was tiny as far as speaker amps go (about the size of a paperback book; leftmost item in the picture below). I later added the Nuforce HDP as a dac (right), their separate linear power supply (bottom), and wired up the matching speaker box into an XLR4 adapter (middle).

Sometimes I miss the simplicity of it, before all the nervosa and upgradeitis.

Where did you buy that grill, looks awesome.
I remixed a .stl file on Thingiverse, uploaded it now https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5563179

Hey thanks for the pad recommendation. I'll give them a try. I'm always switching between velipads and the Audeze vegan pads anyway

As far as the grill, I've no clue where the previous owner got them from

@Joeyjoe26 maybe you can answer this one
These pads from the same store are a mix of velipads and vegan, really enjoyed them too.

HE-6 6-screw is currently my most resolving headphone. I’m interested in comparing its performance to the new Arya Stealth. I never heard an Arya but many say that its resolution is equivalent to Sennheiser HD800, which I do have. IMO, HD800 is less resolving than an HE-6, so I’m not sure how the Arya Stealth would fit in that lineup.

If you have experience with these headphones, what is your opinion on Arya Stealth resolution in comparison to HE-6?

I've had Arya v2 and stealth, and none of them are competitors to HE6 driven correctly in any area. (that includes both 4 screw and the 6 screw)

The Arya SE is not as technical as HE6 though it does a couple things better, namely:

- Better imaging
- Better/ larger / more panned out stage
- Better timbre
- Better tuning

However, seeing as you have the HE6 already, it is the superior headphone, just a very technical driver with effortless dynamics, but not the greatest tonal execution.

If you can get your hands on a 4 screw, it favors a more linear treble tuning, with less grain and hashiness, but it also softens up dynamic impact.

Cheers,

Huh, now I'm gonna have to do a comparison! (although I have the V2, not the 6-screw)

As someone who also has been running both hd800 and he6 for over 6 years I think they are more similar than many might imagine, yet each can has its particular strengths and presentation. A lot of other headphones have come and gone during this time but nothing has yet tempted me to move either on. There are times when I favour one over the other even building a system more around it and enjoy that for many months but then the other one is revisited and it beguiles me with its character all over again.

One of the things that strike me with these old top dogs is the value they offer now you can own both and a amp and dac for significantly less than many of the current fotm top dogs.

I have a LP 4-screw HE6 and a HE6SEV2 powered via a Rag 2. I also listen to an HD-6XX through both the Rag2 and a Valhalla 2.

I'm toying around with the idea of a Focal Clear OG since headphones.com is selling them for $890. Can anyone with on-ears experience tell me how the Clear might compare to the OG HE6 or SEV2? Trying to talk myself out of spending money...

I will gladly buy a Clear to trade for your LP 4-screw (it’s the one I’m missing from my collection)

Hehe….
If anyone are interested in selling their LP 4-screw hit me up

Is that your writeup?
Sadly no.. but I would love to have a chance to listen to such a collection of HE6 :L3000:

I'm going to sell my Susvara because I prefer the HE6 more. It's just more fun to listen to, Susvara might be better at some things, like stage, detail, and "realism?" But they get boring faster. HE6 always surprises me with that ****ing slam, and energetic treble.
