I used the demo pair with the Schiit Lyr and I found them fan-frakingtastic!
My initial impression was actually underwhelmed, but after comparing them to my DT770 Pros and listening to them with a range of music I was left astounded as to how much better modern day recordings sound. The treble is so clear and crisp, and the bass is big without being boomy.
Very nice indeed.
How do you find the Brimary CV2492 tubes versus the stock ones the Schiit comes with?
Yeah, the bass is deep but not boomy. Rather it's sharp and defined. Initially I was wowed by the overall sound compared to the HD650, and it keeps on surprising with its tricks after 2½ months.
I agree it's great with modern music, pop especially. But really, no genres sound bad with it.
I've rolled five sets of tubes for the Lyr, and the Brimar's are the best sounding to me. Between the two stock tubes the Lyr comes with, I like the GE 6BZ7 the best. I'd say the Brimar's are a bit airy and on the bright side, and have good bass.
