I have had the HD 650 AKG 702 the 1st was too colored and in a mist the 2nd too analytical The 500 sound in between which I enjoy
I probably will get the 560 because need new greatest thing that's who I am

  HD800 does have a rolloff but it's MUCH less of a slope than HE500, and starts at 500 Hz instead of 1kHz. The lesser slope of decline makes it much more negligible.
 
SR009's roll-off starts at 2kHz instead of 1kHz. Past that it gets into the mid-upper midrange where HE500s climb back up unlike SR009 which stays put all the way to the treble and beyond.
 
So they're not really comparable..

 
HE-500 and HD800 have a very similar drop off in the presence region and SR-009 also rolls off starting around 1.2-1.3 kHz (around the same place HD800 and HE-500 roll off too), according to the graphs at Innerfidelity:

I don't see much of a difference in their response in the presence region, except that HD800 non-2013 has ~3 db less energy at 3 kHz than HE-500 and that both HD800 versions actually have a noticeably greater downward slope from the mid bass to 2 kHz than the HE-500, especially HD800 2013, the FR of which looks downright V-shaped to me.

I don't like Innerfidelity FR measurements, the compensations don't match what my subjective hearing entails, as such those FR trends don't mean much to me. Even Tyll is planning to change the compensation curve for his future measurements.
 
ANYWAY please refrain from continuing this off-topic discussion. Drawing parallels between HE500 and HD800 and SR009 has no place here. Shift to HE500 thread or make a thread in sound science or something.

The only things I can say so far about its SQ that are negative are not strictly negative things, or are negative subjective to my tastes.
 
It's not as forgiving as I like to poorly-mastered or sibilant recordings.
 
I'd like it more if everything over 3kHz is about 2-3 dB quieter.
 
Still suffers from the typical Hifiman "wide but not deep" oval soundstage.
 
These are already just me nitpicking.

The HE-400's soundstage is oval to me too, but it's 'deep but not wide.'

I guess Hifiman doesn't have a typical soundstage. =/

I like that us not forgiving because it lets me know exactly the way an album was recorded. I agree that the wide soundstage  is not  as deep as I would like but there is separation and air around the instruments and performers. Nice layering also. The inner detail is excellent also. I will do some comparisons this week  and post on the difference with the LCD x and other headphones.  Violin recordings sound excellent and very accurate.

The 560's have over 24 hours on them now and they are opening up more, yes. Soundstage is improving, significantly. Nice acoustical reverb and retrieval. More life and excitement. Cool.
