Wait, now I remember that jerg did already compare the 560 to the 800 a few weeks ago. He found that he liked the 560 and that the owner of the 800 liked it best. His impressions are at the beginning of the thread.

Now we need a comparison to the new 560

Edit 2: As stated, I'm planning on getting a better amp when my pay check comes in.  I'm open to suggestions, under 200 though.  I'd rather a more neutral amp over a colored one (reason why I'm leaning towards the Mangi/Modi combo).

Some guys tried the Hifiman EF2a to drive these HE560s with great success. Seems like a very nice combo. If you don't need the DAC portion, you can give the EF3 a try, it's basically an EF2a w/o the DAC. Currently Hifiman still sells the EF3+HE300 combo for $249 at their website. Probably can sell the headphones if you don't need them to recover some cost.

And here's me who just bought an hd800.. Well, it's a personal journey and this is just another path I suppose... It'll also be a lot easier to get a hang on all the new hifiman stuff and whatnot in a year or so when the 'stats and he-6 successor is out.. Or that's what I tell myself.

Let's see when the hype dies down in half a year, right now it seems the hype train is ready to take off yet again

I was hoping to get a DAC into there as well eventually (another reason I wanted to do the Mangi/Modi combo).  I think I can go another 2 weeks without a proper amp, I am happy with them out of my 5S right now (surprisingly), so I may just do that.  My Mac's RAM needs upgrading first :p  That may change though :p

The Magni Modi combo was stunningly transparent and enjoyable with the 560s. My recommendation over other choices - the Magni sounds very similar to Asgard anyways. Save the $50 and get the little Schiit stack combo.

Anybody in Singapore willing let my audition their pair?

Having doubts about the HE560 now, seeing that many are reporting it's brighter and thinner then the HE500, although the weight and comfort of the 560 is still a very big draw.

For what it's worth... At the Newport show I listened to the 560 out of everything from the EF2A to the HeadAmp GSX-MKII. It sounded horrible out of the EF2A, as did the 400i. But it sounded amazing out of everything else including the Lyr2, Asgard2, WA7, HA-1, Liquid Gold, etc etc. It never sounded 'bright' but I can honestly see why people might hear it... YMMV. PM-1 next to it sounded horrible. The 560 destroyed the PM-1 in every way. In fact, the 400i was far better than the PM-1 (IMO) out of every source I used including the HA-1.

That being said... I'll hold off on buying the 560 until there is some manufacturing consistency. My modded HE-500 sounded as good as anything I heard, save the 560 balanced (not burned in) out of the GSX-MKII. Bring on the hate!

Thanks for the suggestion Fang. I definitely did take a look at the EF 2A and was considering it.

This was my original plan. We'll see how it turns out. Thanks.

If you don't mind coming to Queenstown, you can test out mine.

Where does the HE-560 ship from to the US? From China? Or from the US?

I'm quite sure all the 560's ordered from head-direct ship directly from Hong Kong at the moment.

It took a couple or three days but my order has shipped from Hong Kong on it's way to Canada.

subbed. Still deciding whether I should get this headphone considering that I have and love HE6. Wonder whether it would be redundant or a step down (in which case not money well spend IMO)
