LCD-3's coming in this weekend. Looking forward to that. Will report on initial impressions on how it stacks up to the LCD-2 and HE-500.

The Anedio D2 is on my list as well. However, the NAD M51 is at the top so far. There's also the PS Audio PWD II. Also the new Schiit coming late on or maybe I go cheap and get the Gungnir.

Yea, I've been going soft recently. Will step it up soon! Expect a SR-009 with a portable nuclear power plant amp rig. I'll let you guys know how it compares to the O2

I wonder if anyone agrees with me when I say that the HE-500s bass sounds amazing when the song is NOT complicated/busy. If you're listening to a bass guitar solo or something..the bass sounds fantastic..but as other sounds are introduced..the bass weakens a lot. I can definitely understand why..I just didn't expect it to be so prominent on a planar magnetic headphone.

i have never experencied this problem

I had the same problem when I was running my HE-500 with the Magni. After I got my Lyr, bass performance and soundstage imaging/separation were greatly improved. It sounds like your HE-500 is just underpowered.

Yea for sure, a definite possibility in the future. They are gone...for now.

Woke up today and had 2 planers. Going to bed with none. Feeling so naked right now.

I've heard that HE-6 has more depth than HE-500 so I might go for them instead this time. Going from a LCD-2 and HE-500 to LCD-3 and HE-6....<---- there's some kind of archetypal/theme in there, just can't think of one at the moment.

hahaha dont worry, your HE500 has got a good home now. and I'm sure the LCD-3 will be more than enough to satisfy the hole these babies left.

Thanks for buying my HE-500, I know you'll like them. At the same time, you are now my most hated person on head-fi

Maybe I'll see them again at a meet.

Would props be like meeting an old friend. I would feel that way.

Btw it seems like the Stax is getting more head-time atm than my he-500. That including amp for the same price as a used he-500...

Yea It sure would. I could pick out my HE-500 blindfolded in a crowd among many due to its particular distinctions that I grew accustomed to over the months.

Many other headphones that are interesting out there, but no other headphone is like the HE-500. It is quite unique.

Of course man, Audeze LCD-3 is way much more expensive than HiFiMan HE-500 :)

HE-500 for sheer musicality, Stax for musical beauty
size]

How nice they seem to complement each other... Basically different presentation in every way thinkable.

Given that Fang cat build such a great phone as the HE500 at this price, I wonder what he could do at an LCD3 or HD800 price for a phone that could be driven
by a regular headphone amp. I think that by now Hifiman has a good enough reputation to do this if technologically possible and he has some good ideas.

Just received the HE-500, an addition to my humble collection (Mad Dogs with Alpha Pads, Audio Technica M50 and Koss Portapros). The HE-500 sounds incredibly good, and I can say that it's magnitudes better than the Mad Dogs although some people say they are very comparable. The HE-500 trumps the Mad Dogs in nearly every aspect (except for comfort and isolation).

I am currently using them with the Schiit Modi/Magni so I know that there is a lot of headroom for improvement. In any case, the HE-500 are brilliant headphones, and most probably, are my end-game headphones.

true. in my little experience the he-6(note: that i´ve sold) is the best headphone in the market and very close to the expensive stax sr-009.
cost a little more compared to the lcd-2
ok, the all hifiman headphones have pratically the same structure but i believe in technological capacity of hifiman brand.
for this reason i will see for the future releases
