HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

What are the best pads for the HE-500? Focus, Focus-A, or HM5?

Thanks

(I searched the thread and found a million posts but 1000 pages is just unmanageable, sorry!)

If you like the extra room inside, new HM5 memory foam.  Velours will cut the edge off the pleathers, so pick your poison.  Or buy both.  IIRC, I got both pairs for the price of one pair of FocusPads.

Are you referring to these?

The very same.  I ordered directly from mp4nation, as I didn't think to check Amazon.  Foolish me.

Thanks for the HM5 links and info.

Has anyone compared them sound-wise against the Focus and Focus-A pads? I'm aware of the big price difference, but I'd rather buy the best one right away than having to end up buying both when I find out the first one isn't the best :p

I also ordered the double thick HM5 pleather from MP4 Nation, but that was last summer. These look much different than the ones I have.

Are the ones Ive linked your favs?

Sorry to double post, but those pads on Amazon are actually being sold by MP4 through Amazon.

Yes, that's why I think they're the same.  They say memory foam velours, which is what I'm using, so I don't see how they could be something different.  Price is about the same.

I can recommend the standard Focus Pads. Initially I didn't like them, but they have since broken in a bit and lost a bit of their itchiness. I like them better than the velours now.

i do have them for over a month now ... I surely prefer the velour ones, smoother presentation and more comfy feeling ... the pleather ones make me sweat all the time, even in winter ...

+1 Focus pad A. I've had them for over a month and they're the best sounding out of the HM5, velours, pleathers

More killer deals on this bad boy in the AMZ warehouse:

The best one might be the Prime deal that "may" use the travel case rather than the box.  Something practical rather than... what?  I use my two HFM boxes as a base for my headphone stand

Hi, my configuration is currently composed of a NAS synology DS213J -> SOTM SMS 100 -> Asus Essence STU -> Hifiman HE-500. I plan to upgrade my dac/heaphone amplifier, the Asus Essence STU, and after reading a lot of forums, 4 names came in :
  1. Benchmark DAC2 HGC
  2. Oppo HA-1
  3. Mytek 192 DSD
  4. Fostex HP-A8C

And now, i'm a little bit confused with the power needed to drive the HE-500 (can they do the job), any advice is welcome :)
