Two questions, do the Shure pads mount the same way, and where did you buy them from?

Yeah they fit easily over the plastic ring for mounting.  I bought mine from AI-Consolidated bc I bought like 30 sets of them, but the easiest route is amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/Shure-HPAEC1540-Replacement-Alcantara-Headphones/dp/B00HXAV0UY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401464316&sr=8-1&keywords=Shure+1540+pads

Thanks for posting I may be in the market for a more comfortable pad,  the leather that came with the 500 was nice and comfy while the velour are stiff and dig in a tad at the base of my ears

the audeze looks interesting and a pic would be awesome as well as a description as to how the install works

Cool cool, yeah, the Hifiman Velour are like the "anti" velour, everything was the opposite of what my mind said a Velour should be!

Will take pics later today when I find a moment, they are both quite sexy.  My he-500 on the other hand, is a little beat up!

Hey Guys, thought I'd drop in as I've been messing around with different pads lately on my He-500's, found that my two favorite are the  Audeze LCD 2 Leather pads and the Shure 1540 Alcantara pads.  I was worried that the Shure pads wouldn't fit but they go on very easily and are a SUPER alternative to the INHO lackluster Hifiman velour pads.  Much more comfy.  Sound wise the Shure pads may sound a little warmer than the Audeze pads but I have to do more testing.  I'll try to post impressions later

FYI I used to use the Brainwavz pads on the Hifiman and liked them a lot too, Alpha pads are nice as well but the Shure and Audeze hit top mark for me sound/comfort wise!

Will try to snap a pic as well.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I've got five different pads for my HE-500s.  My favs are the AKG Q701s, which are slightly cheaper than the Shure 1540 Alcantaras.  I'm curious about those.  Would you say they're soft or stiff as to the foam inside?  Also, compared to the HM5s, how is the soundstage?  I've got modded HM5s, but either way they can't compete with the Q701 pads, which use a relatively stiff foam, but nice velour, and are angled.  Once I get them situated properly, they're really comfortable.  Lastly, compared the HM5s and stock HFM pads, how big (or small) are the openings on the Shure pads?

Thanks again, and in advance.

Ok this Hphone just opened a new door in a once thought very well known album.............Listening to John Mellencamp Rain on the Scarecrow, heard what sounds like a dinner bell being rung in the background behind the guitar

The HE500 Just keeps getting better

I think it's about time you start making your own pads. What will you call them? Monkey Muffs?

Styled to match the paracord on your cables. I see a business opportunity.

I did mod the HM5 pads all by myself

OK, I borrowed the venting idea from the jergulor pads

And I have these foam rings... I think they came from one pair of the HFM pads sacrificed to make the jergulorX pads; nice and thick... along with plenty of that FABULOUS microsuede material, so yeah, I think I will make my own pads.  I'm hoping I can shave a little off the rings to angle them, though I'm effed if that goes south, so perhaps not.  Kind of a Barber of Seville vs. Sweeney Todd dilemma

Magic Monkey Muffs.  Thanks for the name!  You'll get your usual 10%.  The check's already in the mail.

You see business opportunities everywhere.  I'd mention yours, but I know we signed that NDA.

But, back to the Shure pads in question.  Not receiving a reply, I ordered them.  Came today.  Haven't had time to listen with them yet, and compare to the Q701 pads, but I will, and you can bet I'll post my impressions.

If you soak the foam in a dielectric, I know some Dutch guy that will be a buy.

I've already been picked, waiting for the rest of my crew to be picked. Then it's "Here come 'da judge." We'll be judging headphones, I wish.....
