got my he500 recently and im liking it alot.

I see that you have the 4xx/560 headband on your HE500’s. I have the HE6se’s and I like style of the new headband but I must admit that the comfort of the 4xx/560 headband surpasses it. I think I may order one of the 4xx/560 headbands for my HE500’s.

I just notice on your sig that it's an HE350 body? Is it a transplant of the HE500 driver with HE350 body?

Anyway, my ears are getting burned-in with HE500 with velpads, and sounding better over time. My HD6XX is a headphone that doesn't want me to get used to other signatures. LOL.

HE500 is quite quick, and crisp. Which HD6XX doesn't get so crisp (but I like it for those reasons in a way). How impactfull HE500 gets is dependent on tracks. It's very impactfull with pop tracks, and difference from HD6XX is that it sounds sharper when it impacts (due to it's crisp treble).

Certainly not the same, but I can see why the tonality would line-up. They both have sharp characteristics in forwardness and impact, and similar treble tonality. They both have a bit of a metallic tinge to the treble tonality that works better for cymbals and horns (or mainly instrumentals), but certain recordings it can be a bit much or not as natural sounding. Particularly vocals comes off sharper than should be, sibilant, and comes off a bit much that vocals are not smooth. There's usually some of that in Hifiman trebles.

I'm being a bit critical of course as I'm trying to get close to ideal as possible. These are some of the top performing headphones.

FastAndClean,

have you been able to compare them with the Ether Flow Angled Pads?

what headphone are you listening my friend :astonished:, my HE500 are smooth and organic sounding with leather pads, and neutral with focus pads, i suggest you to change the pads to these - https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...0-HE-Series-Heaphones/900546_32792285299.html
Hopefully the one for this thread. :) I'm using velpads, and yes Focus pads darkens the tonality a bit. The reason for going for velpads is due to liking the original velour for the high frequency shimmer and brass sounds, just more metallic, but this also changes vocal response as well. Velpads is just more comfortable.

ah the shimmer with the velours, yes the treble was really nice with those pads but the bass have some roll of at the very bottom with them and the comfort for me was very bad, they are very stiff and low quality overall but the treble was very good with them agree

how does the he500 fair on a tube?

hybrid and or otl.

Great synergy with Schiit Lyr 3 Multibit. depends on tube though. Have a read of the Lyr 3 tube rolling thread to see tube recommendations.

Worth noting i've upgraded my HE-500 with the Lawton Audio angled pads.
