HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

Talking about the microphonics from the stock cable, eh? That's the sole reason I'm getting a new cable someday, so I can actually get into the music without a slinky screeching in my ears.

It used to drive me nuts, until I realized that most of it comes from the upper part of the cable, so I adapted. That still sucks. Maybe some Paracord can solve it.

I usually just hold the cable with my thumb at the split and pull it down gently to keep the cables from clanging, but it's still a nuisance. Paracord could definitely help, I'll try it out.

I sleeved the stock cable in 550 paracord, which is plenty roomy for the wires above the Y split.  While it helped a little, it didn't deaden it.  Also, that stiffness isn't going anywhere.  Better off making one

NB: the only way you're going to sleeve that cable is by cutting it, sleeving, then soldering where you cut it.  Not a big deal, but best understood before you go buying paracord.

Is it normal not to want to listen to dynamic driver headphones after listening to a great ortho such as the HE-500?
I can hardly bear to listen to my dynamics anymore after getting used to the planars...

I sold off my HD 600, HD 540 Reference and Reference II, AKG K340, traded off my 650, and never listen to my vintage Beyerdynamic DT 990, or X2 anymore after getting the HE-500, and listening to a HE-6.
I feel the dynamic headphones no longer compare.
The dynamic headphones, to my own ears, sound sort of congested and blurred/unrefined next to the planars.
As a note, my HE-500's aren't stock. They have the grill mod and fuzzor mod.
I also traded off my HE-560. I simply like the signature and energy of the HE-500/HE-6 better.
I actually traded off my HD 650 and HE-560 for a HE-6.
I also tried out a HD 800 a few months ago, but never could get it to sound right to my ears. It just didnt suit my tastes at all. Too analytical, no soul, not truly coherent top to bottom.
The planars, I feel, are on a different level, except for some of the good things the HD 800 does, and the planars just suit my own personal tastes in headphones to a T.

Sounds like you should sell your HE-500, since you have the HE-6.  Good to have a backup, I reckon.

I can listen to the HD800.

Unfortunately the HD 800 never satisfied me.
I wanted to like it and keep it, but I never got to liking its signature.
I actually liked the 600/650 better.
