Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I've tried contacting them, unfortunately they said they have to offer USD prices. which when converted still remains 1,200$ for me. so, im stuck at 1,200$... which is why im probably not going to get them. it seems too high for what they are. also the used marked for hifi cans here in my city is extremely low.

The hifiman edition x v2 is only about 1200 CAD (900 usd) right now on their web store, IDK if they still bundle the free music player with it though, seem likes a much better deal than the 560

I had a pair of these and let them go a little too quickly. Reading the posts in these threads makes me regret that decision :frowning2:

A bit hard to enjoy a pair of open backs with 3 kids under 3 running around though haha
since you avatar picture only has two little ones are you the third, LOL . Kidding aside I only have one son but thankfully he's in college and about 1 year away from graduating with masters and I can't imagine having 3 under 3 to deal with, you have my respect to handle that.

Haven't had any time since the 3rd came out hahaha and 'handle' is a gracious way of saying it :)

Listening to Flim & the BB's - Big Notes on the 400i's and sound is very good with sufficient detail, respectable bass and an overall clarity that I'm enjoying.
Keces HA-171 amp and DA-131 DAC.

What's the difference between 400i and 400s? I'm looking for a planar for hip hop, metal and jazz as well as some of all genres. Trying to decide on a hifiman or the monolith head phones people mention. Is there a hifiman I should consider?

Would 560 be good for the sort of music I like?

Thanks. Looking at your profile you have an amazing collection of headphones. Which ones are you favourite?

I found the 400i and 400S to be pretty close. The S a tad bit smoother but the i more "crisp". The S is slightly easier to drive straight from iPhone. Both have great texture to their bass. I run my 400i out a fiio Q1mk3 and sometimes use its bass boost for rap. Bass also gets better after 20 hours or so.

Fantastic headphones. I did go through a number of returns and one RMA to hifiman before finding a pair without issue, so buy from authorized place with good service (Amazon Prime if possible) and test balance and bass before 30 days is up.

I love my Spirit Labs Twin Pulse Ragnar Edition when I want energy, Denon D7200 when in a bass loving mood but my favourite is the Sennheiser HD700 it is light, comfy and has a sound I love. I really like the Audeze LCD-X but it is heavy
