Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch
Feb 27, 2014 at 6:37 PM Post #2,116 of 3,091
I wonder if the HE400i is meant to be have better sound quality than the HE500, or is it up to par. Would HE500 owners be doing a downgrade, sidegrade, or upgrade by getting the cheaper set?

That's a great question. It seems like they are trying to do just that. Make the HE-400i sound closer to the HE-500 and the HE-560 sound like the HE-6 but easier to run, lighter, and cheaper. Sounds like a great idea to me!! Now we just need to see if they can pull it off. I'm very excited to see if they pull it off

Thanks,

I bet the SA-31 will be a killer amp for the HE-560, like it is for the HE-4, 500 and 5LE!

I ordered a Yulong A18 (package deal with the DA8) which is also (said to be) a warmish amp with big and holographic soundstage. Let's see how it performs.
I fear it is gonna be too short in power for the 5LE (the 6 is out of the question here). The 560 should do better.

I already miss it, but if I want to buy it again at least its not super expensive. Hope you enjoy it!

I feel the same. As much as I can appreciate a super-revealing headphone, I would much prefer a musical approach even if it sacrifices a tiny bit of analytical performance.

It is possible to combine the two if you do it right.

I think the setup in my signature qualifies. Using a KingRex Pre-Amp at the moment.
Also heard MDAC + WA22 + HD 800 at a meet, that didn't lack musicality at all.

So in terms of efficiency, are the 560 still pretty much as sensitive as the 500 or did will the sensitivity be further improved?
I guess the 400i will be as efficient as the 400 and more so wonder just how close the 560 is...
How's the impedance? Anything changed?

As an extremely happy HE500 owner I'm sure both of these models will be excellent.

I for one and many HE400/500 owners would be extremely grateful if HIFIMAN made both the new pads and headband available for purchase separately so they could be retrofitted to the older models.

word is or close to what i remember reading and if you search back could find(thats alot of reading and I dont blame you)

they are releasing the 400i last and I think  it is because they are making it efficient enough to get pretty loud from an ipod or something and not be amp dependent. You can pretty much expect both to be more efficient.

They probably learned from their new IEM line: releasing the cheaper model first is not a good option.

Sooo, it should sound alright out of something like the dx50?
