Market determines resale value as well!  Mine were offered at $1099 and I no response!

Honestly when I saw your post I would have pm'ed you about them right then, but after finding out it is on me to eat shipping cost for hifimans defects I will not be buying these or the hek I was planning on. I can live with teething issues on new high end products and cost in terms of time. I however will not pay additional money for repairs due to things outside of my my control. I mean if I drop them that's on me , but defects are on them IMO.

While I can wholeheartedly confirm that my HEX sounds just brilliant out of either my Mojo or AK240SS, it does still scale with my Hugo TT or Hugo TT/GS-X Mk2 combination. It is a brilliant headphone and the ability to have incredibly good (and flagship worthy) sound with you around the house and nothing having to be sitting at my desk with my full setup is a huge bonus. But make no mistake about it, these cans do scale with better gear.

But I do find that the HE1000s do indeed scale higher, but I don't really use them in situations that I use the HE-X headphones (because I can't really as they really need the power from my GS-X Mk2 to really sound their best). If you're looking for a great pair of top notch headphones and don't want to spend a bundle on the front end rig (like you would with the HE1000s, HD800S, LCD-4s, etc...) the HE-X are a great option to consider IMO!

I think you might be the victim of holiday blues. Where people are feeling pressed after spending a lot in November/December so are not spending in January. I know I have always struggled to sell gear at this time of year. If I could afford your HEX I would snap them up in a heart beat as your price would save me at least $600CAD. But I just do not have the funds... But hey if I win the lottery I will come knocking :) and I will even give you more what those headphones are worth :).

First of all Dr Fang have said that the goal was to make a really good headphone that can be used with portable gear. To get much higher efficiency than for example the HEK they probably have to sacrifice a little SQ. There are no free lunch! If HEX was primarily made to be used with a good portable, the “small sacrifice in SQ” may not even be audible in those setups and they have actually achieved their goal.

”But make no mistake about it, these cans do scale with better gear.” Hum have I implied that they won’t? All headphones I have tried sounds at least a little better with superior gear. Hek even my old Klipsch s4 in-ear sounds better thru my desktop rig. Does it mean that I can get the S4 to sound like my HE6 or LCD 3? – No, not even close. Is it because they don’t “scale higher” or is it just that the LCD3 and HE6 are better headphones, at least as long as they are matched with other adequate gear and power.

with all the discussions about proper amps for the HEX let me say mine sounds wonderful out of my Hugo and Mojo and with a vorzuge pure II+....that is basically what i bought it to use it with on the go...i think everyone has different needs....I use my HEK with my desktop Yiggy/Rag rig and wouldnt think of taking it with me on the go,that is what my HEX is for....

For many, though this is a totl purchase and they don't have the luxury of switching to it's much more expensive brother for home use. I would have HEK or HEX, but not both as I consider both to be overpriced. That said, how does the HEK perform with Hugo? Which would be better with Hugo?

I'm demoing Todd's (from Todd the Vinyl Junkie) HEX for the week. A big thanks to Todd for sending his own personal HEX out on tour.

Day 1:
First impressions
1. Sound: Amazing!!!! I'll have a lot more later, but these sound amazing!
2. Quality: A few people have commented on the chrome plastic. Honestly, I like it. It looks really good. It looks exotic and matches the rest of the headphone really well. Hifiman will never have Sennheiser/Oppo build quality. It's not what they're about. They choose sound first and are willing to sacrifice anything to get it. For me it's not a deal breaker. One minor concern though, the metal screen below the stainless grill seems very fragile. It is slightly bent on both sides on Todds headphone. I tried to take a picture, but it is hard to see. Edit: It has been clarified by Hifiman that the bend in the grill is part of the design. With that being the case, I have no current concerns about build quality.
3. Accessories: The cables are really nice. They are way more pliable than the HE400i's cables. The box is identical to the HE400i box. Despite borrowing from a $500 headphone, the box seems appropriate for the HEX. The 400i box is just that nice.

I always wondered why people that hate a headphone lurk around the page. Can it be jealousy because they cannot afford the can
I come to this thread for reviews, information,on cables amps dacs that might work well with hex
I believe it's your right to give a product a negative review but why argue with those of us who love the hex
