I noticed the loose gimbal, and the "snap" right away after getting them about 5 weeks ago.  The loose connection started occurring about a week ago.  Didn't worry about the loose gimbal until someone else posted about it.  Maybe others with these problems should contact Hifiman customerservice@hifiman.com, so they can determine ther quatity control issues!

My gimbals are a little loose but just figured that's the way they are.  Have not heard any snaps when listening, only if I push on them when taking the phones off and on my head.  The cable connections seem very tight and secure (using the Oppo balanced cable).

Have just recently gotten these phones and so far they seem to be the best I've heard yet.  Way better than the Audeze LCD-2-3-X which I have owned and gotten rid of.  As a long-time, die-hard HD650 fan, I was starting to think nothing would ever top them.  I noticed a ways back that somebody said these are HD650's on steroids.  That claim has been made in the past concerning the LCD-2 and Audioquest Nighthawk.  Both of those phones proved to be inferior to the 650 imho but I think the HEX may be the real deal.  Don't want to overreact too soon but this is the most exciting new headphone purchase for me in years,

Sitting down to some David Bowie (Blackstar and The Next Day) with my HE-X and my Hugo TT and I'm surprised I haven't tried this combination before...I've mostly used these headphones around the house with my AK240SS, but damn...they sound absolutely stunning with the Hugo TT!

Great new album from David Bowie...but I think I prefer The Next Day.

Next up, I think I'm going to add my GS-X Mk2 to the mix. Definitely going on "low gain" with these very efficient headphones. As efficient as these headphones are, they do scale up.

Elise amp? I'll have to check up on it.

These phones absolutely have the least glassiness on piano high notes of any I've ever heard. This is great because I listen to a lot of jazz and classical.

Good impressions!

One thing HIFIMAN did accomplish with the ED-X is that it's fairly consistent in the way it sounds with all sources.
I guess this fits the whole "high-quality sound for the general public".
Though I can't really see someone using a Clip+ or an iPhone to drive these (Admittedly, it does work).
Not sure why you wouldn't want to upgrade your source components if you're buying a $1800 headphone.

I still think you should save up for the HE-1000! It has the grippy, engaging, and slam that you're looking for. But simultaneously it does all of that while articulating excellent details in an expansive and relaxed landscape. Resolution and imaging is top-notch too!

Yeap, I kinda like that approach, you get almost end game sound with ONE purchase, JUST buy a headphone an be done with it

as opposed to "spend the same amount of money... but on three products! After you've tried at least a dozen to find a combo that works :D"

Also I have a replacement in bound to me, so I'll have a more serious up when I can have a serious listen :/

still though, those first impressions out of my phone compared to my Fully Balanced HE 4, while I wouldn't pay $1800 for the HE X [I've already spent at least $2000 on my DAP Dac an my amps] for some one who's not invested ANYTHING into this hobby, the HE X would be a great first an last purchase. Still it's good to hear it benefits from better sources an amps, but if all I had was my V10 and a HE X I'd be more than happy [though I'll always suffer from upgradeitus!]
