OK, I found 2 *NEW* HD-800's on eBay…one is from Italy with free shipping for $1029.00U.S but who knows how much taxes are from Italy??? I would also be very weary about buying these…but thats just me.

The other one is from a seller in Florida for $1195.00U.S. free shipping BIN/BO…which does tempt me to make an offer!

The rest are as I suspected $1599.95U.S.

A less well made, cheaper material HE1000? One would be crazy to buy these over the hd800 if the prices are similar. Even from the photos, these look cheap.

/controversial mode off.

Definitely not a fan of the iridescent purple color (why???) around the earcups.  Black chrome (or black anything!) would look sooo much better!

They are black chrome by the looks of the other pics. Still look cheap.

I'm not talking about sound, I'm talking build quality, and quality of materials used. That said, the HD800's probably sound better too.

Well, I suppose sounding "better" is subjective. Everyone has different preferences. Some might prefer a $10 radioshack special. I think the HD800 perform far above their price bracket competing with the LCD3F, SR-009, SR-007, HE1000 (I can't comment on the LCD-4 yet.) The "big dogs." Note I said probably sound better. Hifimans quality control and build quality on their products leave a lot to be desired (Based on friends and personal experiences), I would assume this product is no different. The build quality on the HD800's is spectacular, very "german", precise. I will listen to this "Edition X" ASAP and if I feel it is better than the HD800 I will come back to this thread and say so, until then....it has a lot to live up to, and I doubt it will.

Is the frame of this Edition X metal, or plastic? Just curious if anyone knows.

Yeah I'm not sure if going in with preconceived notions of some headphones "probably" sounding better than the other is going to give us any fair opinions. It feels like your mind is made up already.

Not at all. I love the HE1000's sound, more than the HD800. I'm very open to these kicking the competitions ass sound wise. I just find it tough to believe these will be able to find a balance between price/sound vs. the HD800. If they do, then wow. Colour me impressed.

Actually a member left a few impressions in the he1000 thread. Very easy to drive from a portable, not as detailed as heK. Supposedly competitor of lcdx and similarly priced. Impressions were very promising.

they can look purple-ish to blue-ish to grey-ish to black depending on how type of light in the room and how the camera catches the reflection. similar finish as the he-400i, which can look to be various colors depending on the lighting. definitely black though.
