Above is what Dr. Fang has to say about the HEX:

This is our flagship phone and we're not gonna lower the price. Don't use amps with more than 1W to drive them or else they will distort. I've seen people use EF6 to drive them which is silly..

OK, I'll bite, if the HEX is the flagship what is the HE-1000?

And here they are, just landed on my table!

First impressions are great: no big technical words come to my mind, just an easy, natural and enjoyable listening...
I'm a happy HeadFier tonight!

So for the frequency graph illiterate amongst us (i.e. me) what sort of EQ (if any) do these measurements suggest would be good for HEX?
i have not heard these. The fr is only suggestion, as it is pretty close to ideal, It comes down to personal taste for eq. For HEK, I think would reduce some treble and boost the presence region(1-2k), for HEX no idea:)

I always cringe when I see a nice pair of cans on their side sitting on a table. I have seen too many cans get damaged that way. Meh. I'm paranoid I suppose and my cans are on my head or on a stand. But to the point, I'm glad you're enjoying the HeX! The sound signature is so sweet, smooth and musical. What are you driving them with and which Dac? Is that a mojo?

Very wrong sir, I'm as paranoid as you. Black cloth under the cans, the picture was dark... The headband touches the table only with the leather part so no issue and no need for a huge cloth.

And to the point, wrong again! That one is Mr. Hugo! ;-)

How close would your setup be now as compared to HEK? Tempted to know :)

I'd love to know as well. Maybe HiFiMan can send me a HEK for the comparison ?

Serious answer - I haven't heard the HEK enough or recently enough to say with any certainty.  But I'm very happy with the HEX - with the cable it is really singing now right across the spectrum, detailed but oh so musical.

Nice, I see you are running optical cable to Hugo, my I ask what it is???
I am using my HEX with Sony MZ-1 (mini disc recorder/player) this unit is the only MD that offers optical out so at some point would like to pair this with mojo or hugo.
Happy listening.
Cheers

Yes, after hours of testing I went for the optical over the USB, for some reasons it sounds better to my ears. The cable you see is the stock one that comes with the Hugo.
I've been looking for sturdier solutions but so far I could not find anything around 30cm that would do, only long cables.

I have a draug2 on order with trevor and may consider the Silvergard S model since it might be a better match for the HEX. likely is! Can you please share some photos of your HEX and Silvergard S?

I ordered the Draug2 for both the HEX and HD800, and know that it pairs perfectly with the HD800, but i'm on the fence with the HEX as the sound signature needs something difference.Likely the SIlvergard S is ideal from the sounds of it.I considered the SC, and even the Zoetic as options. But maybe the S is best for HEX.

Thanks!  The Draug is great with my HD800 - but Trevor steered me away from it with the HEX.

Zoetic definitely an option I think. But I went TOTL and I don't regret it - if you have the $£$ then highly recommended
