I am using them with a balanced connection and they sound great.
The cable has to be right, i bought one from Aliexpress and it was making amp distortions because was wired wrongly at the 3.5mm jack sides.
Then I got one from Amazon and that was wired correctly.

For reference, the 3.5mm TRS plugs have to be wired only at the T (tip) and the S (sleeve), NOTHING at the R (ring).
No offense intended, but instead of going through the hassle of having to worry about cable makers "fibbing" to you how they are wired (I have seen this quite a bit BTW), and/or buying a "specialty" cable, along with still being stuck with a SE cable, why didn't you just purchase a truly balanced cable on both ends? Just curious.

Yes, you have to use USB, but then it becomes a DAC and amp. I'll say this... It's way better than using the headphone jack on my surface.
Hey Birdland, my Bluemini stopped charging. The unit is used very lightly few times only. I am not sure it is because the unit is kept without using for a long time. I tried multiple times but no sign of charging.

Try resetting the blue mini. My brother’s unit did that. It was one of the early models with the separate charge button. I gave him my working OG version since I already had an R2R blue mini. Then I plugged his into a charging cable and held the power button for about 10 seconds to force a factory reset. Has been charging fine since. But Hifiman does warn that the battery can die if not kept occasionally charged. By the way, the R2R version has a reset pinhole.

“The battery may be exhausted if the Bluemini is not used for a long time. If the battery is running out too fast, replace the battery. If you need to replace the battery, please contact your nearest HIFIMAN dealer. The battery should also be charged periodically (about every 3 months).”

I tried to reset Bluemini but there is no response. I had emailed customercare about it and also requested them the cost for battery replacement.

They told me $150.00 about 6 months back. Ridiculous for the battery. I will just use them wired for that price. Let us know what they quote you.

One more thing, the brown color leather of Deva headphones are peeling all over (from headband to earcups) and my headphone looks nasty. How can restore the look of headphone?
There are reasonably decent quality headband covers tailored for the Deva on eBay for as low as $10, available in assorted colors. The cups will start to deteriorate as well and there are decent cups for the Deva available to match.
