I'm back on original filters right now since I just got the unit back from repairs. I'll switch to V2 at some point again, but I mostly want to be certain my dap is rock solid again.

Since we have so many avid users watching the thread right now, I'm curious what everyone's favorite DAC / amp settings are on the RS8?

I'm currently using a pretty basic setup and loving it:

Default Filter (or NOS depending on the track)
Atmosphere Enhanced off
Harmonic Controller: 0
Gain Middle
Turbo Off
Amplifier Class A
No plugins or MSEB

And Marry Christmas everyone!

Haven't side loaded the V2 filters yet but:
Darwin 10
Atmosphere Enhanced On
Harmonic Controller: 80
Gain Middle
Turbo On
Amplifier Class A
No Plug-ins or MSEB

+ Harmonic: 186
Notes: LinPhase somehow sounds more 3D, e feat I'm looking for in my music.

MSEB:
off
or slight adjustments

Plug ins:
off
or (MasterMind A4499 + Dynamics with bass and Mid emphasis)
Notes: Mastermind emphasizes treble and expands stage to the sides considerably to me
@Joe Bloggs I remember you warned against using dynamics with mid emphasis. Why is that?

Gain/Amp:

+ Low Gain
+ Turbo off
Notes: My IEM is low impedance

You can use almost any DAP on the market if connected to an endpoint such as an iPad or iPhone in DAC mode.
It's just about the Roon standalone functionality which only a few manufacturers are supporting

If you're only using Roon for music discovery you can still use the Roon Android app. It just doesn't support hi-res playback, but you still get access to your full Roon library.

The lack of hi-res support is a limitation of the Roon Android app, not the DAP itself.

@Joe Bloggs After opening my RS8, I had the exact same issue as @elementze. I suspect the cause of it is excessive heat. I noticed that there are thermal pads applied to certain chip.

Are you able to check with Hiby if there are any danger of applying thermal pads to the entire PCB board using GPU thermal pads?
