Which FW version are you on?

Maybe the later units are better than the early models?
Still, i'd never trade the RS8 for anything else, sturdy and fast and handles well the temperature with the big dissipator. Really speaks to me

If i was to guess the early adapters have installation issues where a batch of them had faulty dapacitors and/or badly installed thermal.

I cancelled my R8ii preorder, I wait and see how Hiby deals with my repair. I know with RD6 I was out of luck (3.5mm port randomly died).

Then it's the usual lottery of good/bad batches.
Like literally every single electronic product.
This reinforces the need for great dealers local to be able to enjoy coverage of such impossible-to-predict events.
I won't bother you about the famous FiiO m15, of whom of the two that i had in my care, BOTH had the same issues and the company refused any refund/repair saying they didn't have the parts merely one year after launch.
In the end the dealer was nice enough to give me a partial refund. But that brand is now dead to me.
So yeah, if HiBy had some issues on batches but repaired them, count yourself lucky they are an honourable company. Others would ditch their 1.5k player ON THEIR FIRST YEAR, making them throwaway daps.

Did you buy this from Musictek or from China? I remember only way RS8 could be bought days after release was from china.

Ah. I thought it was something promoting the redesigned Darwin V2 filters. Well, if the chipset on the RS8 is called the Darwin II and the redesigned firmware for RS devices across the line is called Darwin V2 that might cause some confusion. Wonder why they didn't remind me of this

Since we have so many avid users watching the thread right now, I'm curious what everyone's favorite DAC / amp settings are on the RS8?

I'm currently using a pretty basic setup and loving it:

Default Filter (or NOS depending on the track)
Atmosphere Enhanced off
Harmonic Controller: 0
Gain Middle
Turbo Off
Amplifier Class A
No plugins or MSEB

And Marry Christmas everyone!
