HiBy RS8 flagship Darwin R2R Android DAP -- Class A -- news and impressions thread

I have been using apple music since the android 12 release on my android phone (Sony Xperia 1 III), I have not experienced any of that, working perfectly up to this morning commute, connection to my car (android auto) is working flawlessly too, only problem is I can't use it with hi-res dongle unless I'm using my other apple product.

Maybe we can ask @Joe Bloggs about this bug, considering I'm also waiting for my RS8. :L3000:
Thanks, good to know.

RS8 runs Android 12 4.14.190-perf #3 from nov 5th 2022 build number SKQ1.211006 dev-keys if there are any devs around :P

We just published our review of the RS8. An excellent DAP with a lot of innovative tech packed into it. The R-2R tuning is also very much 'on point'.

Nice review.
My review notes of the review (mostly small things)
- the RS8 comes now with USB C-to-C cable. You wrote A-to-C.
- You do not mention the supplied back side protector foil.
- wifi comparision with R8 is not really fair. Use of 2.4Ghz shall be avoided anyways, except if you want extreme coverage distance, and nobody lives around you in 100 m radius.
- top down menu does contain direct access to gain control, you just have to swipe down twice.
-it would be nice to know when hibycast will be available. Or just mention that it will be available somewhere in the future.

Does anyone know where to buy a new screen protector for my RS8? I really hate the quality of the original screen protector on my RS8 there's just has too many fingerprints tbh.
and also I really do wish there is a third party that can make some new cases for RS8, I like the quality of it, but it's too big for me when I had the case on :)

There is no supplied back side protector. It's a spare front screen protector. I've used it for the back, but because of the uneven surface on the back, be prepared to push out bubbles for an hour!

I have sold my n8ii. rs8 is far more superior in every aspect. n8ii is just mid tier quality.
I do prefer RS8 and sold N8ii as well but no way N8ii is mid tier quality really (how long did you have it?)... it competes at a very high level with the best, RS8 just has this special lifelike and analog brand of sound that makes it different than any other DAP I have heard.

Just curious why you decided to sell N8ii instead of M17?

M17 power is unparalleled in a portable setup, and is fairly unique in its own right.
N8ii has better resell value as well.

I have the same DAPs as you so I need to make a similar decision. You won’t miss the tubes?

Unboxing slideshow....

This just came in today, and I didn't get to photos and setup until this evening. I've been running through some initial listening with MEST MkII, and wow--super smooth, liquid sound! Looking forward to more listening, burn in, other pairings, etc.

Only a couple minor disappointments so far: first, my volume wheel is a little gritty and inconsistent. Perhaps it will wear in? It's functional, though, and just as easy to use the screen to drag volume setting to wherever it needs to be.

Other disappointment is Roon isn't working. I've previously enjoyed Roon on R6 Pro and RS6 by setting up Roon Remote and making my player endpoint public so I can control it with a tablet. I hope this is something that will be supported eventually, because it's been a favorite way to listen to my playlists and discover new tubes via Roon Radio.

I'm not the only one having trouble with Roon--the following post perfectly mirrors my experience:

I reached out to Hiby (through Andrew at Musicteck). They have an update coming out very soon that should resolve the Roon Remote issues. ARC fix is also in the works but a bit further out.
