Apologies for my stupid question, but may I ask how to save Tidal downloads to the micro sd card? Thanks!

In the Tidal settings > My Content > Download destination you can choose the Storage location :)

Don’t know if anyone else is getting this. I’ve got the R8 on turbo, playing Tidal (including MQA tracks) through the AAW Canarys. Sounds fantastic. But the R8 gets pretty hot after about 30 mins continuous use. But also, along with that, the performance slows down and becomes pretty jerky.
Been using tidal for an hour or 2 straight using mqa for the past few days .Get warm but hasn't slowed down at all. Do you have other apps running ?

Another endgame goal reached on the open back HP front, after declaring R8 my endgame portable DAP. After weeks of waiting D8000 Pro has arrived and its pairing with R8 is excellent!

The player you see there is a test version of UAPP, which still has some glitches, so I need to provide the developer some logs on the weekend.

OMG I dream this combo!!!😱
Did you compare D8000 with D8000 Pro before chose last one?

It definitely is a good pairing. Unfortunately I have not tried the D8000, jumped on the Final Audio train with the Pro. There is anyway no shop around me where I can audition the Final audio products. Many don't even know about it.

The non pro sounds more warner and more like Audeze house sound.

The R8 only found 10,040 songs during scan and when I go to folder view, it states 10,040 songs. The SD card has 10,154 FLAC files on it and I verified it when I connected it to the PC and had it search for all flac files. Is there a way to get the R8 to do a new scan? Why is it not finding all the flac files?

Maybe HibyMusic didn't like some of the id3 tags and skipped it? Out of curiosity, maybe you can try another audio app and scan to see how many files it will find?

All of tags are the same in all FLAC files. I would think folder view would show all of them.

The Empire Ears Phantom sounds great on the R8. It is not as thick sounding as on my other DAPs. Your description of the mids convinced me it would sound good with the Phantom.

I found scan settings. Turned off the “ignore files smaller than 500k”, did another scan and the R8 found all 10,154 files.

My initial listening to the R8 through my Phantom was interrupted by my wife, who seemed a little hysterical. I paused the music and she pointed and said Miracle (our one year old house cat) had a snake in its mouth. Sure enough, I saw the snake moving as Miracle carried it. Rescued the ringneck snake and put it outside. In 13 years in this house, that is the first snake that we ever saw in the house. Only one mouse in the house over those 13 years too.

The rest of my listening was uninterrupted. The Phantom sounds fabulous on the R8. The R8 seemed to open up the mids to where it did not sound as thick as I am used to hearing.

I’m glad your early experience with the R8 is so rewarding. After a week or two using the AAW Canarys with the R8 - and loving the combo - I have now started listening through the Legend X. Different, but addictive. The Legend X legendary bass is showcased well, but not overpoweringly. And the dynamics and sound stage can take your breath away. It’s a more intense listen than the Canarys, so I’m glad I can switch according to how I feel.
