HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions

R6 Pro had the same 'issue'. It's easily avoidable though - keep your phone away from the DAP! That said I get that better shielding is possible. I don't have any EMI with the R8 for example. But there's really no reason to keep your phone anywhere near the R6 when the R6 does all the streaming on its own.
If you're on the go and want to listen to Qobuz or tidal via your phone's hot spot is a situation I can think of.

That said, I just tried my R6 next to my Iphone xr and on top of my eero router with more efficient iems and a speaking track. I'm not hearing it so it's at least below the background white/pink noise of the recording on my R6. It's not like I can't hear very low level background air circulation/tape noise etc in the room etc. Just don't hear anything breaking through that. Here it is sitting on top of my EERO and pic taken with the phone 6" away. I'm not at all disputing what others are hearing but not a problem for me for some reason. This is a speaking track (gettin it started) with some minor background hiss from air or tape etc but if the issue is below this level, it's not one for me.

Regardless of what upsampler is used / not used on the software side, oversampling still needs to be done in the DAC, as that goes up to the MHz range and changes the bit depth as well. The low pass filter option in the audio settings affects how spurious frequencies outside of the "pass band" of the digital audio (e.g. up to 22.05kHz in the case of 44.1kHz sampled audio, 96kHz in the case of 192kHz audio, etc.) are filtered out. I have detailed the different behaviours of the different choices available in previous posts.

Since oversampling will always be performed in addition to upsampling technically I would prefer that only oversampling is performed. To reduce load on the CPU if nothing else.
I agree with all this but I happen to like the result of integer upsample in Uapp :relaxed: outside of the hit it will take on play time. I have generally not cared for upsampling in most previous situations.

The Hiby app is plenty open as is. I tend to prefer UAPP this way but results of which player and how utilized will vary by user and interface.

Indeed, it's very intermittent, even with the R6 Pro which was particularly criticised for this.

Bummer, I just popped on to ask this same question. I haven't had much ear time with the R6 yet, but was listening today at low volume with the HYLA Sarda and picked up the EMI out of both BAL and SE. Switched to ODIN and same thing. I have an iPhone 12 (work) and an iPhone 12 Pro Max (personal). The 12 isn't terrible, it basically has to be on top of it and even then it's very mild, but it's horrible with the 12 Pro Max. They need to be like 4 feet apart. Quite unfortunate.

Just tried with Odin and R6 2020 and R8, each one literally sitting on top of my galaxy android phone and nothing. Interesting observation you made, hardly a problem with iPhone 12 but horrible with 12 Pro Max. Maybe Max has antennas in a different spot, more exposed, creating some interference. Not familiar with iPhone, but can you put it in airplane mode to turn everything off on your Max and see if you still have a problem?

Now that explains it, I own a 12 Pro Max and it was not far away from the R6 2020...

Again I have zero EMI when wifi is turned off and playing off local files, R6 2020 has quite the black background

Yeah there's a lot of different factors in play I think. My wife also has two phones (iPhone 8 for work, iPhone 12 Pro for personal). iPhone 8 has no issues at all either. 12 Pro is between 12 and 12 Pro Max in terms of interference caused. Both work phones are on Verizon and both personal phones are on T-Mobile. My work 12 is on 5G, the rest are 4G. I have leather cases and my wife uses TPU, etc. No issues if the phones are on airplane mode. Issue if wifi/bt off but cellular on. Heard back from HiBy on it as well:

"This is common with many newer DAPs. To improve Wifi and Bluetooth reception, the antennas are placed at the top area to the left of volume wheel. Therefore, it improves the reception but also picks up extra noise. The only suggestion for this is to keep the phone about 5 inches away from the new R6."

For 3 of the 4 phones that seems to be fine with little to no issues once they're a foot apart, but for the 12 Pro Max for whatever reason it causes more interference. Curiously the time of day seems to make a difference as well. Had to wake up at the butt crack of pre-dawn today and everyone else was asleep it was also more manageable versus yesterday afternoon when everyone at home was working/studying with computers on, phones, etc.

Should be getting my R6 2020 tomorrow. I understand that there is an upcoming ROM release to make Google Play available on the non-international version?
Anyone seen confirmation of this?

All I can say is that some patience will be rewarded. Whenever I get a new player, I need to voice my IEMs etc with tips and cables, play with apps and settings to find the matches that works best 'for me'.

Player is extremely versatile, capable of prescribed tasks, informative and very close to neutral. Very open with perhaps a touch of warmth to it but that's always relative to what one had before or is accustomed to.

To add. I'm not saying it's perfect and I'm sure some Hi-End players will have a bit more solidity or note weight about them but it's a lot for the bucks.
I reckon the R6 is the best value entry-level high end player right now. And I do classify it as high-end considering its hardware and software maturity. It's faster and has more software features than most flagships.
