Wow thanks for that insight. I am now again leaning toward the Hiby R5G2. I recently got an offer for a used out of warranty DX160 for 120 USD. Do you think its worth it ?I've had de ibasso DX170 for 1 week but decided to return it and bought de hiby r52. The main reason for me was battery, with headphone low volume flac/mqa I had a battery of around 5 hours... For me thats not acceptable because after 1 or 2 years thats gonna be even less...
Soundwise for me the quality of both player is good, the DX170 had a little more emotional vibe to it, the r52 is a little more technical. But when you enable the class a it gets warmer, for some headphones this is great for some I like the economy mode better.
The sound of the DX170 was a little more to my taste but the battery is one big no no! The battery of the r52 even in class a is much better.
The old android is a shame but everything works great now, I don't stream much but even that works out of the box. I like the mangoplayer of ibasso more but the hiby app is very close.
The MSEB is another positive selling point of the hiby, some headphone need a little more warmth even after enabling the class a, with MSEB this is easy and system wide
So to me the hiby is the better player because of the MSEB and the battery the sound is 98% of the DX170 so close enough, it's emotional vs neutral (which you can change enabling class a with MSEB).

If the battery is still "OK" I would say go for it, for 120 you won't find a better player...

I owned the DX170. It was pathetically slow and buggy. Nice sound but Android 11 did it no favors since it can't run it properly. You cant forget the iBasso DX170...a 469$ usd device with android 11 built in....
Finally I bought the Fiio M11 plus Ess. Thanks a lot for all the help and advice.

Does this need burn in?
If its brand new, yes.Does this need burn in?
Also having it for a few months now, I've noticed that the class A mode takes some time to warm up to sound its best. Once its nice and warm running for about 20 mins it sounds better. Its difficult to not use the class A mode, it sounds so good.
Is there any other dap that has a class A mode?

Yeah, mine is brand new. What does the burn in change and how long is recommended? It actually sounds pretty good right out of the box but there's a metallic digital sheen to everything and the soundstage feels cramped, all in class A.If its brand new, yes.

Once all the chips, caps, wiring, etc have power or signal go through it for a certain amount of time, it settles into a "final sound".Yeah, mine is brand new. Theres no specific time frame, it just takes as long as it takes. I would guess 100-200 hours probably, I don't remember how long it took for mine to burn in but not much you can do about it so just enjoy and ride the wave.
I do remember that once its burned in the class A mode is much more noticeable when you turn it on and off.

I've noticed this DAP is not so good for sensitive IEMs like the CA Andromeda, at least in Balanced Mode. The Output Power is too high even in Low Gain Mode. I'm between Volume Step 26 and 28 and I can't adjust the right Volume because it's too rough. There should be a Ultra Low Gain Mode for Low Inpedance IEMs.
Another Thing I've noticed with Tidal: The Sampling Rate Indicator is showing 705,6 k in the Status Bar on some Songs. I think this must be some Bug. I'm on the newest Firmware.

705.6 kHz would be the correct unfolded sample rate for 44.1 kHz MQA (16x).I've noticed this DAP is not so good for sensitive IEMs like the CA Andromeda, at least in Balanced Mode. I just received my r5g2 yesterday. Does it need time to optimize battery life to get that advertised 35 hours on economy single ended low gain? I'm "only" getting roughly 22 hours on a full charge. Anything I need to do in settings? Delete the hiby stock app? Everything else seems to be fine, but missing out on an entire third of the advertised battery life irks me.
