Just got this in my mail. First impressions were that the vocals sound forward and soundstage somewhat narrower than my dp-s1 or dx200. Missing abit of the Sabre bite but details are good. Sound very reference in that its flat. Hiby link connection is abit quirky but works.

biggest complaint is that dsd native playback is problematic. Keeps stuttering when i was playing the thriller album on dsd. Stuttering stopped when playing dsd as pcm or dop

Other than that quite a nice little package for the price

Thanks for the impressions. What device did you play out to at what DSD rate?

Hi Joe,

Its a dsd64 file of billie jean. It happens for around the first 20 sec or so and disappears. The rest of my dsd files work fine on the r3pro but this is the first time I had seen this issue with this file on players which are probably all running on pcm/dop mode.

Am loving this device though. Its small and packs quite a punch.

I see. Are you listening directly on the R3 pro or connecting it to another DAC/amp ?

Hi Joe, its direct on the R3 Pro. The stuttering stopped after the first 20-30 secs or so and the rest of the track played properly. Was using a Sandisk Ultra card which I wondered if it was the bottleneck.

But the player otherwise was great, alot of power for something this small. I thought that the AK70 and DP-S1 was small but this is a different level still.

Will the R3 pro ever be capable of Tidal offline?
That`s the most important question for me. THe R3 Pro would be perfect for me IF it would have tidal offline, or even better, Amazon Music HD offline.
Any infos on the support from Hiby themselfs?

is it possible to use this dap as a portable dac for an android phone with a micro usb? some say the phone has to use a usb c. and if so, is there a way to go around this problem?
Yes, and no it does not have to be USB C.

The cable that you connect to the phone must be an OTG cable.

C'mon Joe. I know you have the answer to whether the R3 Pro can do Tidal offline in the future with updates.

I'm sure the R3 can do it but will Hiby allow it or are they trying to push people to the higher priced (higher margin?) R6 to get that feature?

Hi ... i am struggling to find any experience with the R3 Pro and some 'mid-range' impedance headphones. With my AKG K712 i am considering getting the R3 Pro as my mobile DAP - but unsure how the experience will be given the the 60mW @ 32 Ohm be. Thanks for your assistance !
