Hiby R3 Pro Portable Bluetooth DAP

Anyone else getting an 8003 error code when logging into Tidal? I have the R3 Pro Saber. A poster on the HiBy Reddit group contacted HiBy and they say it's an out of date Tidal token and requires a firmware fix. If HiBy ever get around to fixing this I suspect it won't work for me. Like others the latest firmware I can use is v1.5. Versions 1.6 and 1.7 are unusable for me with constant error messages and choppy sound.

The fix for the 8003 error will no doubt be built from v1.7 so I can see my R3PS will only be any use for playing local files in the future.

This is the response the poster on Reddit received.

*Due to security reasons, Tidal plans to disable the old Tidal token and start using the new Tidal token. Therefore, we need to update something accordingly for our device. We will release a new R3 Pro Saber firmware version to fix the issue, which may take a few days. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Thanks and best regards, HiByMusic*
Anyone with the same problem try an OTA update. There's a new version 2.0.

v2.0 isn't listed on their website, so we don't have a changelog.

I don't suppose they have fixed anything else have they?
I haven't had a really good play around yet but it seems very promising. I was unable to use v1.6 and v1.7 due to constant error messages when streaming from Tidal. That has now gone with v2.0. I don't know if it's just my imagination but the general UI feels snappier as well.

Yes, an informative change log would be nice. If it does appear on their web site I bet it reads the same as the change log in my screenshot, i.e. not at all informative!

At least they got the Tidal login issue fixed. I emailed them last week with a long rant 😄

I've got the new 2022 version, the balanced output is now rated for 340mw at 32ohms.

The dac's have been upgraded from dual ES9218P's to dual ES9219C's.

Gapless playback has been flawless for me with flac files.
The only issue I've had so far is when I hook it upto my stereos USB dac. Using a USB C to USB B cable the sound is kinda wobbly and digitally distorted for some reason.

Awesome, have you owned the previous Saber? Curious about sound quality and noise in comparison. The previous one cuts back on hiss extremely well.

This is the first HiBy I've owned, it has no hiss evan in high gain mode that I can hear.
It's very clean and neutral sounding, almost pristine.

I upgraded from a shanling Q1 because I broke the screen on the Q1, although it still technically works.

Gotcha, great to hear (not the broken Q1). Are you using sensitive IEMs, and balanced?

What I realized immeditely after the 2.0 firmware update, is that the database update works so much faster now! Didn't have enough time to notice any other changes, but this is already a welcome upgrade. I own the non-Saber version, BTW.

Hi. I'm about to buy R3 saber.

How is r3 saber 1st edition vs 2022 edition?

It's $20 difference here. Which one should I get?

Thanks ^^
$20 more for a good amount more power but same black background? I’d say go for it. Different DAC too so probably a bit tighter sound seeing how the other one is a touch warm.

I have a frustrating issue with the v2.0 update on my R3 Pro Saber. Everyday I'm having to go through the process of scanning the QR code with my phone to access Tidal. It seems as though I have access to my account for around 24 hours before having to scan the code again. Surely this should be a one time setup? Anyone else having this problem?
