Anyone have both Hiby R3 II and Shanling M1S?
In terms of sound quality, which one is more Musical, fun and more enjoyable?
Some say M1S is warm and mellow, and some say M1S is neutral and flat.
I have Olina SE and I mostly listen Metal, Rock.
Right now M1s is around $200 and R3 II $148 on Aliexpress.
Thanks

I had both. The M1S had a more offensive Treble Presentation (Shanling House Sound). The R3 II is the more neutral of the both. If you're Treble sensitive, take R3 II. If you're Tidal User The M1S is better, Tidal works there flawless. Offline they are equaly good.

Thanks for reply. Is the offensive treble smooth and soft or its metallic? And how about bass?
Which one you liked the most?
Thanks

The M1S has elevated Bass and offensive Treble. So it is more punchy/fun sounding but for me the Treble Presentation is too fatiguing, especially if you have already IEMs that are strong in this Frequency Area. As I already said the R3 II is the more neutral of them with a more Balanced Tuning across the Frequency Spectrum. So it's easy: If you don't care about hot Treble and have maybe neutral to Dark sounding IEMs then the M1S is for you, otherwise if you don't care about Tidal/Qobuz then get R3 II.

Alright thanks, I got your point. I think R3 II will be better, I don't like too much treble and bass, I prefer midcentric gears. I will only use the DAP offline.

When I turn on my R3 II after a few seconds the Bluetooth screen comes up and I cannot proceed until I disconnect from Bluetooth which always takes 2 attempts. What setting have I got wrong as this doesn't seem right. Thanks for any advice.

@HiByMusic Perhaps this question has already been raised, but I have not found a solution. As I understand, there is no option to see albums inside Album Artist now? Are there any plans to add such functionality? I think a lot of people would like it.

+1.
I have yet to hear about a scenario where this “logic” makes sense… Why “Album” is the next filter after selecting an “Artist”, but not after selecting an “Album Artist”?
I repeat: “ALBUM Artist”…

EDIT: IMO, this is how it should work…

The “Artist” view shows all the artists from your library sorted alphabetically; you select one, then all the tracks where that artist is listed (tag “Artist”) are shown alphabetically (no album view/filter).

The “Album Artist” view shows all the album artists (tag “Album Artist”) from your library sorted alphabetically; you select one, then all the albums from that album artist are shown alphabetically (or better by year? This could be an option in the settings for that screen); you select an album, then all the tracks from that album are shown sorted by track number.

Just an opinion as everyone has a different idea on library navigation…

I have a problem with my Hiby R3 II. When I want to listen to an album in Qobuz, it gives me an http error code 400: bad request. Is streaming broken?

I was using mine yesterday with Qobuz and there were no issues. Just a data point for you.

Hi all,

My original Hiby R3 got smashed up, and I’m looking to fix or replace it.

Can anyone who owns both gen 1 and gen 2 tell me if the build quality of gen 2 is is as good as the first? I really don’t like the look of that big plasticky knob - it looks fragile and likely to accidentally move in the pocket.

Sow how does it compare to R3 i in the hand? What are the buttons like? Reviews suggest 25% less battery life - is this true?

Any help greatly appreciated. I’m super sad about breaking my Hiby - we’ve been through a lot. Cheers.
