Hello everyone.  I am leagally blind and was born that way and have lived with it all my life.  Back in the 90s when I was single I owned Sennheiser HD580, Grado SR225, and a Headroom Supreme headphone amp.  Life moves on, I am married and have a two year old daughter.
     I now only own Sennheiser PX100 headphones.  My Headroom Supreme is in storage and the Sennheiser HD580 and Grado SR225 are broken.  I do have a Headroom Airhead (older model with 3AA batteries).
     I am looking for a "jack of all trades" headphone for use on an iPod, computer, Tivoli Audio Model Two, and the Headroom Airhead.  I do not want an in ear/earbud as they hurt my ears.  I like the sound of an open headphone, however I want to block some noise and also not share my music with everyone in the room.  I want to stay under the $100 mark for total cost.

-- Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (very linear and behaved - I own these)
-- Audio Technica ATH-M50 (retail for $150 so they might be out of your price range)

What are your thoughts on the Sony MDR-V6 which has been around for 20 years?  I used to own these when I was in high school and I thought they were great back then, but how are they now?

The MDR-V6s are very good headphones.  I often forget about them.  
 
I found the HD 280 Pros a little more linear.  When I demo'd the V6s at my local Guitar Center I found them to be a tad bright (but it was a brief demo so I could have been wrong).

Did you like your Sennheiser HD580s? The HD600/ HD650 will sound very similar and are wonderful all-around headphones.  You may want to get that old amplifier out though, they need a good amp to sound their best.

I got the impression he was looking for closed cans given his request to block out noise in his original post.

I am looking for closed cans so I do not disturb my sleeping wife or so I can block out some sounds as well.  I am looking for the "best bang for the buck" as I do not have much money to play with on this.

best bang for the bucks is audio technica m50. $105 on amazon with free shipping and no tax if applicable. A few bucks over your budget, but if you can swing it, you are definitely getting more than a $100 headphone.

I didn't check the going price for M50s these days, but that is a good deal.
 
I would buy those if I was in your position.

The SRH440s are nice. I own them. I did not find them to have weak bass, although that might be my amp. The neutral sound signature makes for a good jack of all trades headphone.

I always believed the HD555 are the jack of all trades, but the master of none when it comes to open headphones.
 
It'll do everything you want it to do, such as music, movies, or just casual listening, but there's little wow factors.
 
They can be bought for under $90 because they will soon be discontinued, and with the foam and soundstage mod, I think they're quite a bargain for their current price.

For closed phones, the M50 is going to be hard to beat at that price and it is actually better than a "jack of all trades". How badly are the 580 and 225 damaged? They could be repaired or you could sell them for parts to fund your purchase.

I'll agree with all that recommended the M50. Amazing bang-for-buck cans. Great all-rounders. Had them on most of last night as I went around the house gearing up for the work week.
 
A great value and they rival many more expensive sets.
