your correct in sticking w an ipod based on her use of itunes

there are different daps out there but u cant replace itunes for someone who's music is already set to it. (well, possible but annoying), im sure you already know that. taking away itunes in reality is more miserable to a listener's experience than what the new dap could bring.

believe me, i know, i went from ipod to zune. sounds better, yes, but there's not a day where you wont hear me complaining about it

I'd say it depends on where your relationship is. a pair of IEMs would be nice, or go with something totally different. you could get her a nice watch.

Updates: I -finally- managed to find a local seller, original iPod Nano 4Gb White, used, but in absolutely perfect condition. Collecting it and making payment on Saturday. Gonna buy the box, velvet lining, and feathers from craft store on that day too.

The first generation Nano has about half as good a battery as the second generation -- but it's a much better looking device, IMO (and I say that as a second generation owner).
