+1 the above on listening to kpop with HD800. The treble is.. oh my.. The only artist that doesn't give me much of those shrills is Baek Ji Young. I'm not sure hows your tolerance for sibilance, but just in case, for your sanity, do absolutely avoid all headphones that have boosted upper mids/lower treble (i.e. ESW9, ESW10, SRH840, etc), their "screaming" during the chorus parts will simply kill you. Look for headphones that give you a broad v-shape frequency graph, maybe like D2000, TF10, ath-pro700, etc. Not too recessed in mids or the vocals will be almost completely drowned by their generally strong background music.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but im back for suggestions on which cans to upgrade to from my ES7.
My listening preference is pretty much the same, still kpop but i dont listen to SM's music but mainly from JYP and YG( except 2ne1, not my kind of music and big bang's latest album) and also indie bands ( dear cloud, mary story, nell, brown eyed soul, rocket diary, etc)

i would like to try open cans this time as i was quite blown away by the AD700 my friend bought and i will be using it only at home and from my macbook or ipod touch. i only have the funds to upgrade my headphones now so no amps or anything. The budget should be something like the es7 or slightly higher but not too high.

Any good suggestions?

Thanks alot!

I have used my Sony MDR-1R for KPop, but it is always lacking the power that some artists are trying to bring across (e.g BTS). Been using the new Beats Solo 2 Wireless lately and it actually does KPop justice. Yes, Beats may always be associated to bad quality sound, but I found out that the Solo 2 are more tuned down from it predecessors and actually offers decent quality sound, may not be most neutral and accurate sounding, but the powerful 'thump' and the bass clearly makes KPop such as BTS' Save Me, Fire and Bigbang's songs all the more fun to listen to. Give Beats a chance, try using them for some awesome strong KPop!
