100+ Head-Fier
My Arya stealth magnets do a great job. Super fast response to bass and changes in beats. Check out KGLW PetroDragonic Apocalypse if you haven't already.
I would not rule out dynamic drivers. Yes planars are usually faster and have deeper bass extensions but dynamics on general give more attack/impact and that is certainly a great benefit, atleast for me. For metal I do use planars, like LCD-3, but mostly prefer dd.Helloes. As a metal consumer, with limited experience in headphones, I have an impression that planars are the only ones I'd go for, at least in my budget zone.
I have a feeling that some electrostatic ones could be even better, but the budget ones I had could not do the lows sufficiently.
Currently I am settled on HifiMan Edition XS, but it's somewhat not enough, so I am looking for improvement. At job I am using DT990, due to comfort, but compared to Edition XS there's a huge difference for me (small details missing on DT990).
I have to admit that I have no "trained" ears, and my hearing probably is also somewhat average. Also, previously I said "small details", and that was in relatively high registers, but where planars really stand out for me is drums, the fast decay and attack let's me "feel" the drumming like an "interpretation", because I can register it clearly in my mind, I think (not paying much attention to how it sounds, but more of *when*). Any how, that's just me, and I don't plan to look at dynamic driver headphones anymore.
Have you tried the LCD 2? I'm wondering if I should buy them.I would not rule out dynamic drivers. I do actually own both LCD-2 and LCD-3. I found LCD-2 at such a great price that I did not want to miss the deal. But after acquiring the LCD-2, I have only listened to them 1-2 times.Have you tried the LCD 2? I'm wondering if I should buy them.
