Hello guys. I'm a new user and believe or not, I used the forum search tool to look for similar threads, before creating mine. I read some posts but they were kind of old, so I decided to create my onw thread. I hope you guys don't get too angry and please, waste some of your time trying to help me.

First of all, I'm a complete newbie on all this headphone stuff, I don't have a reciever and I connect my atual headphone (which can be pretty much called crap) directly to my PC. I'm not an auophile either.

Basically, I'm looking for a pair of headphones to use with my PS3. I'm algo using it to listem to music and watch movies (mostly on TV, through a HDMI cord from my PC), so, I'm looking for an all arounder headphone.

I noticed that many people recommend the ATH-AD700s. It sounds very nice, and it's not too expensive either, but I'd like something that don't leak too much sound (both directions). I'd like a headphone that also offers a nice experience in movies, like that stereo surround stuff. I don't mind having a microfone atached to the headphone or not, I'm looking mostly for sound quality and an affordable price.

My budget is something around U$200, inclugind shipping (I live in Brazil). Any kind of help is much appreciated. Please post some links of online stores that ship products internationally too.

Thanks guys!

ps. Sorry for my poor english. I hope you can understand it.

The AD700 is nice though the DT440 will give better overall sound (they are closer to the level of the HD595/AD900). If you absolutely need isolation, then the DT250-80 will be one of your best sub $200 choices.

I see. Thanks for your suggestions. I wonder if DT250-80 is a "stand-alone" headset, meaning you can plug it directly to the TV/PC and use to its fullest. By the way, are the A700 any good in isolation?

Here is a thread I made not to long ago. Hope this helps a bit:

Thanks for your suggestion. So, these M50 are really much less confortable than the AD700s?

The A700 probably has similar isolation levels to other closed phones and they will have more soundstage than the M50 for gaming.  Id imagine they would be more comfy as well.  The recessed mids however make them less than ideal all rounders for music.  All I know about the M50 is that they overemphasize bass a bit so depending on taste that could be a good or bad thing.. The 80 ohm DT250 will not need an amp and is a very balanced sounding phone that sounds great with everything.

I see. This sounds great. I think I'll look for some stores or sellers willing to sell this 80 ohm DT250 for a good price and ship it to Brazil. By the way, are those headphones confortable?

edit: COnsidering that most of my gaming will be done on a PS3, and I'd like to listem to both the game audio and the eventual online chat audio on the headphones, do I need to purchase something else, other then the headphones?

How exactly do I connect them to my PS3/TV? Remember that I don't have any kind of amp and I plug my PS3 on my TV using a HDMI cord. Do I need extra cables? Can I plug the headphone directly to the TV (it has a headphone input)? What is the best alternative to enjoy better sound experience, without spending much more money?

I have a similar set up. I have an AstroMixamp. IN order for me to get Dolby Digital Sound into my phones and use a mic for online gaming I had to get this amp or something similar. I have a Sennhsier Pc 350 plugged into the amp, and the digital optical cable running from the PS3 into the amp. The amp is powered my the USB output of the ps3.
This amp is $129, but the shipping is expensive. I think there are cheaper and less hi-tech amp/headset options ie TurtleBeach.

I see. SO this Astro Mixamp would really be a good option. The problem, as you stated is that the official Astro site wanst to charge me U$ 230 for shipping+taxes (no, I dont live in Mars or something), for a total of ~U$360 delivered... which sounds very abusing for me and my wallet.

I purchased a Fiio E5, which is way less expensive, just for experimenting purposes. It will take a while to arrive home though. Before joining this Forum, I purchased a Siberia V2 USB (I'm regreting a lot, still shipping). How good is this headset? Should I be able to use it on my PS3 without an AMP, or will the Fiio suffice? What kind of cables do I need for this setup?

Way to go gamers! LOL

Unfortunately, as stated above, I probably won't be able to purchase the Astro Mixamp until me or some friend goes to the US. As for the headphones, I'm seriously considering both the A700's, AD700's and the DT250-80. They all seem very nice, I may end up purchasing the cheaper or maybe some used, in good condition set.

As for the amp stuff, I really would enjoy further options other then Mixamp, cheap ones too, if possible. Thanks for all the help provided so far.

Oy... Now we have 3 gaming threads floating at the top.

For your budget try to get the AD700's and Astro Mixamp. Especially since you are playing on PS3.
