Headphone Buyer's Guide

Hi guys, I'm in bit of a pickle here
I tried to buy a pair of JVC HA-RX700s on Amazon, but I found out that the prospective ship date is in one to two months!
They were selling it for $41 with free shipping.
I'm not asking anyone here to be my personal servant, but I was just wondering if anyone know of a similar deal off the top of their head.
Thanks for any halp.

Hi crew, new member looking for my first real pair of phones. This post is a great help, but I'd like to echo the sentiment to update it. Seems like a great way to prevent noobs like me posting a million "which phones should I get?" threads. Which I'm likely going to post anyway.

Always try to hear before you buy regardless of reviews. For the most part. This is more of a gauge for price range

I was wondering: How up to date is this list? The last edit was over a year ago (04-28-2008) and the member hasn't been online for a while.

I do want to buy some new headphones and was wondering if I can still trust this list since much better things at cheaper prices might have come out.
I don't know, if I did, I wouldn't be posting here.

This is my first time buying headphones of a higher quality than the ones that come with my iPod. I found Sennheiser CX300s on Amazon for about $25 (they're not fake - sold directly from Amazon, Inc.), and I was wondering if you guys thought this was a good deal, and a good choice for a first-time buyer. How does the CX300 stack up to the CX400 ($30 on amazon) and the shure E2C (about $50)?

My budget is $50 or lower, and I'm looking for earphones/canalphones. I want to get SR-60s as well, but they're not as portable, so I think earphones would be better for my first buy.

Any advice is appreciated.

Actually, I may look into getting the AKG K324P. How does this compare to the Sennheiser CX300?

I found a pair of grado rs2's at a local stereo shop today, they are selling for 375, a pretty good deal. The grado headphone amp i tried them with was 450 i think. Both together is too much for me, but i'd like to snag those rs2's if you guys think its worth it.

so my questions on whether they are worth it:
1. i've heard the rs2's are not worth their price tag, are they worth it at 375?
2. i won't be getting either the grado phone amp nor another High end amp, i will be making my own simple DIY amp, and sometimes be using my e-mu 0202.

with those two thoughts, do you guys think its worth it?

Where are you finding those DT770's for $150? Everywhere I search the net they are $269. I find them on ebay for $162, and can do a best offer for $140 probably, but they aren't authorized dealers. Anyone buy from sounddesignaudio? Are these real or fakes?

It would be nice if this thread could get a new caretaker, or we could have a new thread.
