Head-Fi and HDtracks (David Chesky) Collaborate to Assemble A Headphone System Test Album!

I hate to be the one to say it, but this is the dullest music I've ever heard. I don't care if it is the best headphones demo material - I have no intention to listen to any of the tracks ever again and all these mediocre artists are on my ignore list already.

Totally not worth the money.

I'm talking about the 24/96 version - maybe the 16/44 is better :-))

Buh? I wouldn't say I love every track on the album, but I don't find it a stretch to appreciate them for what they are--a collection of really nice sounding songs. I've already found them quite useful for comparing equipment, and it's fantastic to have a benchmark against which to measure the recordings in my music collection. What kind of music were you hoping for?

Wow....thank you. I just bought three of the 8G's for me, my wife and my son ($67 each, you can't go wrong) after his Cowon broke, and just started my entry into the Sansa world.

Son of a gun, my 3 units came with higher 2.26 firmware and plays flac.
When I bought them from Amazon, it did not list lossless as a playable format.
Thanks for that!

However, without line out capabilities, why would someone want to play 24/96 files through the internal amp and dac (now someone is going to say there is a cable to use for line out, right)?

I will try one of my 24/96 files from HDTracks and report back, anyway.

*EDIT*- OK. I just put on "Raising Sand" by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, and it took it, shows it, but when you try to play it, it cycles from song #1 to song #13 over and over again.
So, it's confused, and can't play more than 16 bit.

Thanks for testing.
I guess I'll be purchasing the 16bit album then.... My ears aren't that good anyway....

I'm pretty sure you can Rockbox it and enable 24/96 playback.

I tried to purchase this and stuck with their download manager. They have an odd approach to digital content delivering. I do not like the idea of upgrading my OS just to download some FLACs. I am disappointed and asked for refund.

Their download manager works quite nicely (at least on my Macs). One of the best features is the cover art and liner notes included.

I would like if they provide alternative way additionally, without some buggy download manager. I already have download manager built-in Opera.

I've downloaded 10 hi-rez albums from Chesky/HDTracks and haven't had any problems with the Download Manager.
Perhaps it's because I am running Macs.

Bought the 24/96 flac version last week.  Downloaded without any fuss on my xp box.  I really dig these tracks!  Using it to help me evaluate some equipment and I think it'll be a great resource/tool for me going forward.

Tried to buy this just now, but it won't take my card info for some reason. Wasn't all that interested in the first place but I thought 'meh, for 6 bucks I can get something to compare that's standard' but if their software is borked I won't bother. Their loss.
