Isn't the 4k bump what a lot of people had problems with on the stock HE560? The mod seems to exacerbate that problem.

I'll try to get my hands on some of the shelf liner from the OP and post a comparison.
It's the same shelf liner that I've used and linked in the guide, this is just the white foam variety.
I did a lot of testing with the shelf liner I had and some new one with a different pattern that I picked up today and both of them don't seem to do much to the sound. Not even when I had two layers almost covering the driver fully. I'm really curious to see what magical material you have Jerg.![]()
I don't think it's the same. Even the thickness is different.
And of course, it does produce a different sound. Predictably.
If you're in the U.S., I can ship off 2 different liners for you to try.
The one jerg uses for this mod to me seems to make the sound "tighter", for lack of a better description. It does sound like it lifts up the upper mids around 5-6KHz a bit to my ears, and that's not generally very good.
The one I posted earlier (lighter colored) sounds a bit more diffused, and has an obvious effect (as in... I don't think it's just me) in reducing treble energy. Not sure how to put it, but either it's less ringing for real, or it's simply "shafting" something in frequency response.
2 different liners. Notice the lighter one has smaller holes and a slightly different shape.
The sound is different as well. I think I like the lighter one better. But it's hard to tell.
pauldgroot, I'll be cool with sending them free of charge, of course. Please consider the measurements to come (if you'd like to do that) as my compensation.![]()

Dude, you got different liners. The ones I'm talking about are identical to your right ones except black. Tsh.
