Annoyingly, my 595's just died on me. The tiny, tiny wire going from the small pcb to the actual driver (well under 1mm thick) has broken in two and i have no clue how to fix it,

My first thought is to get some HD650's, but the price is just mad. I bought some HD600's for £130 six years ago, so i'm finding it difficult to pay £280 for these.

I like accuracy, as I produce music (club stuff), but i do not want to completely give up musicality. I like good, accurate, but powerful bass (i've always like how you can feel Sennheisers when up loud as they vibrate and pump, you can feel kicks, etc, which is why i always trust Sennheisers.

Any options i should really look in to? I cannot check them out before i buy, i need them ASAP and will be buying online. I have thought of just getting another pair of 595's, but they never really impressed me after the HD600's, so i don't know...

^^^^^ tape mod = win.

I was too slow to pick that up and now stuck with HD598's, which my collection is all black for a reason.....

Anyways, the drivers are different but very close regardless

MSRP in the US/Canada for the HD600 is $520 vs $650 for the 650 even though street price is lower (both between $400 and $500) and the difference between the two can be as little as $30. The huge difference in your parts is difficult to explain. Anyway you're saying that you liked the 600 better than the 595 so may as well buy a pair of 600 instead of new 595s or 598s, unless budget is an object.

If you like the Sennheiser sound signature go for the 600's.

Actually, the HD558 and HD598 have different grill housings as a result they have distinct sonic differences.  Even with the foam removed, the HD558 does not quite sound the same as the HD598.

Yeah, but's a very small difference. I would say they share about 90-95% the same sound

They have plenty bass for someone coming from Senn. Actually they have a lot of Bass if you count anyone coming from Grado.

I actually went for some HD600's, it will be nice to have the quality back again, i never liked the HD595's, they are not in the same class.

Hope they turn up soon, it's night time and i'm listening in mono right now :)

OK, they came today. It's clear they need a burn in period, the bass feels a little light right now, but the mids and highs... it's like I've just got the equivalent of laser eye surgery but for my ears! My HD595's were a little knackered, it must be said, but even the day i got them I was disappointed. One of the best points of these cans that i can tell immediately is how revealing they are, they don't gloss over a bad recording, and that's just what i need.

I'm very glad my 595's died now :)

Looks like the HD600 is working out quite well for ya.  It is indeed a special headphone.
