Hi,

SR225i are supposed to laid back then rest of the Grados and HD595 are supposed to be forward than HD600/650. So are these 2 , SR225i and HD 595 similar or areSR225is still lot  forward sounding than HD595 ?

Thanks,

I agree, but will add that the hi's are not as harsh and the HD-25's once adjusted to your head are SO much more comfortable to wear then the Grado's.  To my ears the HD's have overall better sound also.  .

the only one current senn line-up can match up grado for forwardness, only HD-25 I guess.

I much prefer the HD595 to the SR80 from comfort alone. I really don't like the way the SR80s spin and it has done bad things to the cables. Finally, they sound different and I don't want to say which is better as it is so personal, but using the 595s is a pleasure, not a pain.

I dont find my 225is uncomfortable. They are very light weight. If they ever start to irritate me I find a bathroom break solves the problem. Of course I have small ears so they are a good fit.

At first I didnt like the 225i's but after a few weeks with them I enjoy their sound immensely. Its all about what type of music is being played. Anything acoustic is going to sound impeccable on the Grados. Live music sounds beyond incredible. But I will say that you will get upgradeitis with the 225i's once you start reading about mods and such. Grados with aluminum or wood bowls are superior to anything plastic.

The 225 is more forward sounding because there is no soundstage. I probably liked the 225 more, but the 555/595 is a better sounding headphone overall. But that really depends on the music you are listening to. If you only listened to guitar heavy music, then the 225 would be the way to go, but the 555/595 is much more versatile. You get more depth to the lows, better soundstage and similar enough highs and and mids.

Thanks all of you for your responses.

One more question : Are 595 as easily driven as 225s ?

No.  As long as the source isn't very weak they should be loud enough though.  That said, they sound better amped, and get a much bigger benefit from an amp than the SR225's.

The HD555/595's have a much larger soundstage than the SR225's.  I got to listen to them side by side with a pretty expensive setup.  I found the SR225 to have much better detail, but I prefered the "liveliness" of the HD595's since I already own MS-1's.
