Okay, I'm looking for some headphones for classical music and I'm driving them with the ASUS Xonar essence ST

I've narrowed it down to the modified555 and the DT440 (I'm open to other ideas) Which would you recommend?

Any input is welcome.

Thanks!

150-200$ is okay, I could be talked into 300$ but only if that poster gives a good argument  and only if my xonar st could drive them to their potential

I've heard about the ad700s and seeing as how I already own a pair of AT's (M50) I thought about them first, but I heard they only fit well on larger heads, and I'm only about 5'6" so, smaller head than most.

Your M50 is considered to be a step up from the HD555, dunno anything about the DT440. IMO you'd be better off saving a bit more money and getting something a little higher end.

You can usually find some used K701's for $200-220.  I know these are a pair of cans that people say are very picky to amp, but I have to say I have never been more impressed with them than when I break out the classical. (Though I don't really listen to much classical and I'll be trading in for some Grado 325is, which I hope will match my music preferences more; so I guess take my advice with a grain of salt.)

This is also coming from my own buying patterns where I prefer to get something I'm pretty sure I can grow into than going for something I'll want to replace in 6 months.  Your OCD might differ from mine :D

I think since I'm only going to be using these for a single genre (M50s do everything BUT classical well enough for me) I'll keep it cheaper (and in the AT family). I'm going with the AD700, if I don't like the fit, probably Moded Sennheisers (soooo cheap).

Thanks for the input though!

I don't like them. i wanted a bigger sound. Perhaps my expectations where set too high or i just need to
allow more time for them to burn in. my superfi.3's sound better. I can't decide whether to keep them and mod them or
send them back and get something a little pricier.
